hey so I have scoliosis too and will probably need the correcting surgery and I've been freaking out I'm scared. does it hurt? and will I still be able to bend or move and work out? help
Hi! I wish I could say that it didn’t hurt but it really does hurt. A lot. For quite a while. It’s very very hard for a while. I felt like a truck had run over me when I first woke up. If you want more details on the pain let me know lol I don’t want to scare you but it really does suck. But it’s worth it. And there’s a reason why it needs to be corrected in the first place what can ya do…
You can still move of course, and bend. I wasn’t very flexible to begin with so nothing changed for me lol. And yes ofc you can work out! Your doctor should tell you the details of when you’re allowed to do different physical activities. You’ll definitely still be able to do everything you can before you had the surgery.
It’s a slow process of healing but I’m glad I had it. Not gonna lie, it was the worst time of my life. But you’ll be surprised how fast time flies. Seriously. The first few months (almost a year tbh) were horrible but now I can’t even remember them. It’s like the surgery never happened, because I feel quite normal. 2 years after surgery, and my back feels fine. I still get tired easily and my back does tend to ache towards the end of the day if it’s been a long day. But it’s way better than the way it was before I got the surgery. It gets worse before it gets better, but the end result is worth it. I’m pretty sure I can do any standard workout/gym activity/sport if I actually tried to lol.
Pls update me on your situation!! I would love to know more. And I’m so happy you sent me a question, feel free to ask me again! Good luck with everything. I know scoliosis is fucking horrible.
