I'm from the UK, so I don't know, but what's the difference between the SAT and the ACT? Even if there isn't an official decree as to whether one's harder, which one do the smarter kids tend to take? Thanks so much, I have to take one of them because I want to get into a US university and I am at loss as to which to take.
Hi there! I will try the best I can to help you out. I know there are multiple blogs on here that go in depth. I will provide you with the basic information and if you have any specific questions, don’t be hesitant to ask! The SATs and ACTs are the standardized tests you take for college admission. Depending on which college you want to get into, you have to get a certain score. Depending on which college you want to attend they will either want an SAT or ACT score, unless your college specifically tells you which one they want you to take. Start your college research now! Just go on the college website and find the link that tells you what you need for admission. Here’s how they differ from each other: The SAT contains, critical reading, mathematics and writing. It takes roughly 3 and a half hours to take, with timed breaks in between. Each section is up to 800 points. So roughly, you want to score 1200-2400. (1200 is an average score most universities accept). The ACT contains english, writing, math and science. I think it also takes 3 hours or so. The four sections are graded between 1-36 and a composite score is provided which is the whole number average of the four scores. Now, don’t be intimidated by it having 4 subjects, each subject questions are shorter than the SATs. As for whether one is easier or harder, that kinda depends on you and what your strong/weak subjects are. My advise to you is to take both of them if you can. This will allow you to have more options if you score higher on one than the other, plus depending on when you graduate high school, you can take it as many times as you want to get the score you need. Remember this is a standardized test for college admission, so everyone who wants to go to college takes either one or both. I only took the SATs because I scored high enough to be admitted to the college of my choice. I know this is a lot of information but please do not be stressed out about it. Colleges here in the US also take in account your GPA, class rank and extra curricular activities. Again if you have any questions feel free to ask, I hope this helps!
