You’re right about some dog breeds being prone to aggressive/prey chasing behaviors. My best friend growing up and her family adopted a police dog, German Shepherd, when we were 9 or 10. The first time I approached that dog even though I was careful, he launched up and snapped at my jaw. I remember the way his teeth scraped, but I also remember him turning into the nanny dog as soon as I started crying from the spook. It’s not his fault he was nervous but I’m always ready for play aggression now
I had a German Shepherd/Collie mix growing up who did the same! he was a BEAUTIFUL dog (people would stop us on the street asking to buy him as a regular thing), but the first time I approached him in hopes of friendship Shep bit my entire face. just a snap, not enough to draw blood, but as a tiny kid it’s quite scary having your whole head briefly inside a dog’s mouth
he also had the Collie herding behaviour down pat! at the park, he’d circle around us kids obsessively, and get rather anxious when we wouldn’t group like sheep. RIP Shep, you were a real one
