I think it's more that the gene combo looks much better on the Fae than it does on the Ridgeback. Maybe play with the genes on the Ridgeback some more and that will help. I really like him as a Fae though.

I think you have a nice range with him and your actual progen. I like him as a fae more.

Thanks for the input! I ended up giving him bar and underbelly, and he’s staying as a Fae. Last gene is either going to be eye spots or stripes. c:

I’d probably go with 1024x if you really want to get that accurate/detailed. Otherwise I would just tweak and blend and get it as close as I can without getting too res-intensive.

(Let me just overwrite my previous reply.) The Yog testificate, upon closer examination, is indeed higher resolution. The eyes are the giveaway, as they are smoother and more rounded than may be achieved with the texture you’re working with.

So, what resolution should I go with? 1024x? 2048? I’m quite stuck with how I should continue with this texture. The villagers are probably the harderst texture to draw since they only appear every so often and even then it’s not close to the camera at all in most cases. The colored bits on the villager is the template I used to start drawing him (didn’t know where on the file the textures had to go). That colored image was originally 2048x when I downloaded it. Maybe I should use that resolution then? I’m not sure though, normally my game can’t even handle 2 or more 512x textures. :p

It’s not higher res. From what I can tell, it’s more that the shading and such has been more thoroughly blended. There are color gradients involved, and more detail than you have put in (ex.: the upper lip is a diff. color than the lower).

thank you for the quick reply. :) I thought as much, I already tried putting as much handdrawn shading is as possible. In my picture the lip actually has shading, if you look closely the lower lip is darker. It’s just that the colors don’t match so well. I used to take the colors straight from the video and then when I was done I turned up the contrast so I got the actual colors (youtube darkens the video) But I have since then moved on and I am now trying to get the colors to be as similar as possible by selecting them myself. My other guess is that the texture they used was originally a drawing resized into the villager model. Which would explain the seamless anti-aliasing or more simply said, the smooth texture (shading). I’m not sure how I should go about making my testificate less sharp? The width of the lip for example is only 4-5 pixels on my image, yet when looking at the yogscast their testificate, the lip looks like it’s 7-8 pixels. Only the eyes look good, but the rest looks so much sharper and lower res than it should be.

IT IS REALLY FUN, FRIEND. They have registration windows though so you’ll have to wait til the next one opens up before you can join. Can always track the official Flight Rising tumblr so you know when they make the next announcement though!

It does look fun! Back in the day I was a rather dedicated Neopets player and loved it, but drifted away for one reason or another. Dragon Cave had my attention for a little while too. The dragons look amazing -- that's the main thing that's attracting me, personally. The possibilities, the combinations! Even the ugly ducklings look nice. The ability to breed them, too.

A lot of people seem to be having a great deal of fun with it and thoroughly enjoying themselves. I'll be keeping an eye on the official tumblr for the next registration window! :'D
