I have never loved something as much as I have loved Peach
big mood
would you suggest dead mealworms for a blue lobster? I breed them for my geckos and I know that crays will eat bloodworms but I can imagine the exoskeleton on a mealie might pose a problem but maybe not. thank you!!!
It should be okay, but I would personally suggest blood worms over mealworms. And make sure you’re putting in some plant matter into their diet so there’s some variety! If you’re looking for other reptile-esque alternatives, they will also eat crickets, just make sure they are dead before feeding time.
Is peach blind/doesn't have eyes? Or is that just a trick of light?
Peach is an albino axolotl, he’s got eyes and can see.. probably(?) about as well as any other axolotl (which is not well). his eyes are just really light and pink bc of his coloration! they’re those little ‘bumps’ on his face lol
when i first got him my mom gasped dramatically like “where are his eyes?!” theyre a little hard to see, but they’re there! :)
Qustion- can alxotol (sorry spelling) go out of water? Just wondering
not in the sense of like, living outside of water, no! (unless they go through metamorphosis but that’s another can of worms). they’d be okay being picked up out of water for a second or something like that, but they’re totally aquatic amphibians otherwise!
they don’t lose their baby gills like other salamanders so they get to stay underwater 4ever
I love your blog aaa I've always wanted an axy but they're SUPER illegal in my state :(
:((((( I’m sorry!!! You can live vicariously through tumblr!
(cray anon) thanks for the advice! what kind of shrimp should i look for? the big ones people eat or is there a specific kind?
Ah! Well, I have only ever fed mine frozen brine shrimp from the pet store (they look like tiny weird centipede spidery things). I know they will happily eat smaller species of shrimp (ghost, cherry) although I’m not sure if you can buy those species frozen for feeding, some quick research has shown that bait and tackle shops will sometimes sell frozen ghost shrimp. I have learned some cray have the temperament to hunt live shrimp, so if you’re not opposed to live feeding, ghost shrimp are relatively cheap. I personally wouldn’t suggest the large shrimp people eat, but I suppose pieces of those could be offered as an occasional small treat, the issue here is that people food sometimes has additives and stuff, so be careful if you do choose to try people food.
hello! do crayfish need to be able to reach the surface of the water if theres a bubbler? also should shrimp be cooked or raw when feed to them?
Ah, I personally would suggest to have at least a few ways for them to get to the surface, maybe some sturdy plants or a decoration that reaches the surface. You don’t have to if you have the bubbler, but your cray may prefer climbing to the surface over the bubbler. Either way I would definitely recommend having the bubbler whether or not you provide a way to the surface.
As for the shrimp I’m not sure it matters much either way, I would just worry about shrimp from the store having additives etc. so make sure you’re sourcing from an organic seller or from a pet store. My cray has eaten raw shrimp on several occasions and really enjoyed it, however those were from a pet store, and usually as long as it’s already dead they will eat it no problem. Also make sure you are varying the diet with plant matter as well as animal matter.
