Is Spiritfarer good? Saw it on sale at the eShop and debated getting it!
It is very good. The art is gorgeous, the story is beautiful and sad but touching (it is a game about death and grief so please be aware of your needs while you play it but the way these topics are dealt with is mostly in a light and sometimes playful way, more upbeat than somber but I did cry a lot).
Sailing around and exploring new towns/islands etc is so much fun and all the characters are interesting in their own ways (you will probably get very attached to specifics ones). You can hug each and every one of them (except Elena. Don't hug Elena. Just don't.)
Almost everything on your ship or to collect is a mini game and sometimes it's not very clear how to do those mini games, which I found frustrating, but they're fairly simple and even if you're not good at the mini games you usually get less rather than nothing.
I adored it. My roommate played it last year and I was so fascinated by watching her and how she talked about the game with such love. It truly a lovely game and I recommend it. It's simple game play for the most part, it's mostly chill vibes of sailing and collecting materials and meeting weird and wonderful characters, and then eventually you say goodbye and it handles that in a way that is honest and patient and sensitive.
Plus you get a cat and yes, you can pet your cat.
