Favorite and least favorite genre of music? Why?

It’s so hard to choose a favorite genre, because I find different styles more appropriate for different times and moments… and just defaulting to “classic rock” feels like a copout when there’s so much more of the spectrum that I enjoy.
so let me try something a little different: my favorite style is “cover songs” and “genre-bending”.
Because every performer brings something new to an established work. Glenn Gould’s interpretation of Bach inventions is more romantic and dramatic than anything Bach would have originally intended for his songs to be performed. Does that stop them from sounding gorgeous? HELL NAW.
Weird Al’s use of accordion in his polka remixes add a sound that most people don’t regularly listen to. He uses this to his comedic advantage because it’s so jarring against the original piece. The humor is good natured, and his insight opens up new possibilities for both his music and the original.
A capella remixes of pop songs, rock remixes of 16 bit video game tunes, orchestrated versions of rock songs, folk remixes of rap songs, metal remixes of opera…
And then you have the people who compose original works in these contrasting styles. Taking a person’s expectations and defying them is more difficult, but equally rewarding.
