If someone kills a divine while knowing they're a divine and will resurrect in a year, will they still get punished like they murdered a mortal or just as if they injured somebody and they were in a coma for a year or something? Assuming it's in a high kingdom territory with civilized laws
Good question! In the vast majority of cases, this would be treated like any other murder. Whether the victim resurrects or not, the murderer will face full penalty all the same. At best, some jurisdictions may downgrade the charge from "murder" to "manslaughter", but that isn't very common.
For a divine, the death of their physical body can potentially be devastating. They have to participate in capitalism just like everyone else, so if they're not around to pay their bills for a whole year, things can start getting repossessed. A lot can happen in a year's time. They may resurrect without a house, without livestock, maybe their spouse left them, their stuff gets stolen, they miss the deaths/weddings/birthdays of their friends, and so on.
The wealthier, more notable divines have hired stewards to take over if something like this happens, and their lives aren't disrupted as much. But even the most powerful ones can end up losing influence and wealth too.
The Crescent Cult, for example, starts crumbling pretty quickly whenever Disgrace gets killed. He has appointed a Cultmaster to hold things together in his absence, but it's still dicey and he ends up hemorrhaging a lot of troops and wealth if he isn't physically there to scare the cult into doing things himself. Other divines might have similar experiences.
