LICH
Name: Lich [lit-sh]
Class: Monster
Subclass: Terrian, Midweight
PPL Category: 4 - Very dangerous and hostile to peoples
Forger: Originally forged by Reaper, Divine of Death. Corrupted by Disgrace, Divine of Hate.
OVERVIEW
Liches are soul-eating monsters with necromantic powers. They resemble skeletal humanoids with glowing red eyes. They do not have legs or wings, and instead levitate themselves using magic.
Liches must feed on the souls of people to survive. In times of scarcity, they can enter a hibernation state and survive for centuries without feeding. However, once they enter this state, they cannot wake up on their own and must be disturbed by a living person to rise from dormancy. Other monsters and undead cannot wake them. Because of this, a lich will only go dormant as a last resort, otherwise they may lay in a forgotten dungeon until they eventually become dust.
Every lich is armed with a special staff that resembles a lantern. This is called a “soul matrix”, and it is where they capture and store souls to eat later. One soul matrix can contain dozens of souls at a time. If it is broken, however, the souls will escape and the lich will not be able to craft a new staff themselves. They must steal one from an angel or another lich, or else they are likely to starve to death.
A lich without a soul matrix is far more aggressive and dangerous than usual. Conversely, a well-fed lich with a full matrix will ignore prey entirely, and may even be reasoned with.
Angels can “spend” the souls in their matrices to heal themselves and others, but liches do not have any healing abilities. They can instead raise corpses into zombie thralls, which angels cannot do.
HISTORY
All liches were once angels, monsters forged by the divine Reaper to harvest souls for him.
Long ago, Reaper was married to Queen Morgause of the Unseelie Court, but fled her kingdom when he grew weary of her abuse. Morgause did not take kindly to this and hired the divine of hate, Overlord Disgrace, to kill Reaper. Overlord Disgrace wielded a unique blade called the Divine Executioner, which could destroy immortal souls and prevent them from resurrecting.
Disgrace has made many attempts on Reaper's life, and failed miserably each time. Both divines are necromancers, but Reaper is far older, wiser, wealthier, and more powerful than Disgrace, so he has managed to defend himself with ease.
Disgrace hasn't succeeded at killing Reaper yet, but he has managed to capture many of his angels during their battles. The angels are advanced, intelligent monsters with impressive powers–far beyond any monster that Disgrace could forge himself.
So, Disgrace decided to take Reaper's creations and corrupt them to serve his own dark purposes. He turned them into elite warriors for his Crescent Dominion. These warriors became known as liches.
Liches have greater necromantic powers than angels. They can raise a small troop of corpses to fight for them. Unlike angels, however, they must feed on souls to survive. This makes them inherently dangerous creatures, feared by allkind.
CULTURE
Most liches on Gaia serve Overlord Disgrace. They are elite soldiers and guardians of his most important operations. They choose to serve him because he is an agent of war who creates death wherever he goes, and death is what liches crave more than anything else.
These monsters are very intelligent and can be trusted to carry out complex tasks. Disgrace is known to send them into battle to harvest the souls of the fallen for him. These scavenger-liches bring a portion of the souls they harvest back to Disgrace in exchange for more battlefield excursions in the future.
Queen Morgause also has a few liches in her employ, though she tends to cull them when her soul supply runs low, as she relies on a soul-powered contraption to maintain her eternal youth. She does not wish to compete with her own knights for “food”. Because of this, there are far more liches in the Crescent Dominion than in the Unseelie Court. These monsters are killed on sight by authorities in every other kingdom on Gaia.
Rogue liches are often found living in skorpius lairs around the Serkel Desert. They form partnerships with these other monsters because the skorpius regularly bring live prey back to the lair to feast upon. The skorpius has no use for the soul, so it is harvested by the lich. In return, the lich uses its intelligence and levitation powers to scout out more prey from afar, then points the skorpius in the right direction.

It's Goryx's adorable camedile, Dilly!
Drawing this actually sucked. I'm horrible at drawing animals, so I found a picture of a crocodile and a bat, Frankenstein'd them together in Photoshop, traced what I could, and bullshitted my way through the rest of it. I hope it looks at least somewhat cohesive. It's a little different from her last design, I decided to subtract some camel and add more crocodile.

En el perfil de los solra se mencionó que vendrán al sol y al mar, ¿En qué consiste exactamente esas creencias? Me interesa lo del mar
TRANSLATION: The profile for the Solra mentioned that they come to the sun and the sea; what exactly do those beliefs entail? I’m particularly interested in the part about the sea.
-----
The Solra are an ancient human race that originates from Southern Lorrowey, a rather barren land with poor soil and not many resources. So, the Solra harvested many resources from the sea instead. Food, wood, textiles, bone, rocks, salt, sand...the Solra depended on the ocean's bounty to survive.
Because of this, they worshiped the sea itself as their god. It was a powerful entity that blessed them with food and other necessities, but at times it became angry and destroyed their homes with its wrath. Some Solra tribes offered human sacrifices to the ocean to appease it.
They had a similar relationship with the sun. The Solra farmed kelp and other aquatic plants along the shore, and these things needed sunlight to survive. More cloudy days in the year meant cold seas and less harvest, so the Solra prayed for sunlight.
These humans began interacting and trading with the local sirenes early on. The sirenes brought them treasures from deep in the ocean, too deep for the humans to go. In return, the humans gave them things from far inland. The Solra came to know what lie in the depths of the ocean before most other humans cultures did.

Could multiple cecaelia fertilize the same egg clutch?
It is possible, but it's not commonly done. That's because the eggs are contained in a delicate membrane that the male cecaelia must pierce with his tentacle to inject spermatophores. If this isn't done carefully, the membrane ruptures and the eggs will die from exposure to the elements.
Piercing the membrane once is already risky, piercing it twice or more is just asking for trouble. The structural integrity of the membrane becomes weaker each time.
Under lab conditions, I think it's totally possible to inject the same egg clutch with the spermatophores of multiple cecaelia and end up with half-sibling children. But in natural conditions, this usually ends in tragedy.

First, hello, I'd like to say that I find your work incredible and very inspiring; your world-building is impressive in itself.
Second, I have a question in mind: considering that weapons and military service in your world are still melee weapons (like swords and iron axes), how would each kingdom react to or use gunpowder if it were discovered in your world? I really don't know if gunpowder exists in your universe.
Hello! That’s such a nice compliment! Thank you so much, I’m glad you’re here!
Actually some of the Great Kingdoms have already reached Industrial and Digital tech level. With others, it’s hard to measure because magic is involved. But I will say gunpowder is most commonly used by the Zareenites. They use it for guns, bombs, mining, and demolition.
Matuzans, on the other hand, don’t like guns because they prefer magic. If they use gunpowder, it’s mostly for fireworks.
The Mogdiri are even more strict about gunpowder, in fact they don’t even allow it in their kingdom because the resulting explosions scare the wildlife. This kingdom prides itself on taking care of the animals.
The Morite military is famous for its aerial bombing operations. This is where most of their gunpowder goes. They use it to make massive bombs that can level entire villages when dropped from the sky. Guns are rare in this kingdom because it is so poor, and guns are very expensive items imported from Zareen Empire.
Evangeline Kingdom does not allow guns, but will use gunpowder for fireworks and demolition. They will not use it for mining, as that violates the Nymph Pact.
Folkvar Kingdom and Seelie Court are the same as Evangeline in this regard.
Unseelie Court loves gunpowder and uses it for everything without restriction. Citizens are blowing fingers off and having a great time doing it!
The Aquarian Alliance has no use for it because most of this kingdom is underwater.
The Empire of Damijana uses it occasionally for weapons, fireworks, etc. but less so than Zareen, because they have moved on to laser/arcane weapons.
Etios has banned all technologies that require gunpowder. So while gunpowder itself isn’t banned, you can’t really do anything with it here, so nobody bothers with it.

Quick update (7/22/2026):
I'm feeling much better this month. Not 100%, and I'm still not out of the woods with my medication situation, but at least well enough to do some writing now.
Drawing is a whole different beast because I have to sit upright for long periods of time, which is pretty torturous with my conditions these days.
So, I don't have any art to share yet. I apologize. But I DO have multiple new stories coming up very soon: 2 shorts and a main series addition!
I have also done a lot of invisible back-end stuff, like organizing lore in a format that will be easier to move whenever I decide to migrate away from Tumblr and give Looming Gaia its own website. It's not a for sure thing yet, just something I've been considering for a long time. I want the transition to be as smooth as possible when the time comes, but that means completing a lot of tedious work right now.
Keep an eye out for big updates soon! And as always, I really appreciate your patience and kindness through this brutal time in my life. I have received so many uplifting messages and support, and even life-changing donations that have literally saved my life. Sincerely, thank you guys so much. ❤️
Quick June update. I'm worse. Cannot function in any way.
Hey guys. I'll keep this short and to the point because I'm fucking tired.
My medical issues are bad. Like, really bad. My thyroid issue has swung too far in the other direction, I cannot get my meds right, doctors are not helping me, and the hormone swings are causing psychosis among other severe issues that are making it impossible for me to function day-to-day. It's terrifying. I'm scared. I have no solution right now, I'm doing everything I can but it's just not working.
My living conditions are so cramped and moldy and uncomfortable. I still have nowhere to sit and draw comfortably, so that hasn't been happening as you've noticed. My brain is being pulled apart too much to write. I feel horrible. Almost got myself involuntarily institutionalized for 180 days recently, so if I disappear for months on end, that's probably what happened. It's the meds. I'm very unstable physically and mentally until I get the right dose dialed in.
I'm barely hanging in there, but I'm here. Just wanted to check in. Thank you, and sorry.

If there was roshava twins, triplets etc. and only one of them was granted divinty, would split soul doctrine still consider their divine soul lesser than an unbroken mortal roshava?
Good question! I answered a similar question in this other post.
I think the Split-Soul Doctrine considers divinity a whole separate thing than the concept of unbroken souls. Not better or worse, just different. Those who believe in the doctrine also believe that Gaia chooses who is divine and who is not, and She chooses them after they are born. They consider Brokensouls and Unbroken to be a natural phenomenon that occurs before birth. It is not really decided by Gaia in their eyes, it's just a passive thing that happens.
Broken and Unbroken souls are judged by Koeshi society by the circumstances of their birth. Divines are judged by their actions in life.
A Koeshi person is expected to show an Unbroken soul respect, even if that Unbroken is a dirtbag. But they are not expected to show divines respect, that is a personal choice depending on how that divine behaves.
If a divine also happens to be an Unbroken roshava, then yes, I think the Koeshi people would begrudgingly feel pressured to show respect to them, because that Unbroken status supersedes everything else.

you don't have to this question but can Roshava's skin color change with hormones and if not then how red skinned trans women and blue skinned trans men and rest of the LGBTQ communities are treated by their families, friends and the rest of their communities
Yes, intersexed and transgender roshava experience changes in their skin color. This species' skin color changes along with their hormone levels. For example, intersexed roshava often have a purplish hue or are just fully purple in color. A FtM transgender roshava may start off blue, but as they take hormones, they may turn purple for a while and then become red. It kind of depends on what method they are using to transition.
As for how these individuals are treated, it totally depends on where they are located. Roshava live all over the world of Looming Gaia, and each region has its own culture. A purple-skinned roshava would be considered very odd in Evangeline Kingdom, for example, but not unusual at all in Matuzu Kingdom.
