What are akechis true motives regarding akira. I feel like hes going to betray him at some point in battle
Akechi’s end goal is to replace Akira and become a more competent Akira- the Akira he himself idealized growing up.
As for betraying him in battle, Akechi still kind of needs Akira (and going in for another kill after the first one failed would be way too risky). There are certain secrets only Akira knows, and Akechi needs to find a way to drag those secrets out of him in order to fulfill his duties more effectively (aka, if he wants to make this job easier, he needs to learn what those secrets are). Once he’s got that, he can kill Akira. That, and Akechi needs to earn Minato’s full trust, and he intends to use Akira to do this.
Minato trusts Akechi to some degree, but Akechi is aware Minato only ever burdens Akira with very intimate requests, and he needs that to change if he ever plans on replacing Akira. He’ll have to subtly guilt Minato into letting Akira get some rest. The more Akira rests, the more Minato has to rely on Akechi, and the more Akechi normalizes his presence for Minato, the more Minato will begin to rely on him.
Akechi is trying to find a subtle and not completely obviously shady way to replace Akira so that the end goal wouldn’t seem suspect.
Akechi “betraying” Akira would imply Akechi was ever on Akira’s side, when Akechi’s been trying to bury Akira since the very day Akira became retainer.
If anyone should be worried about being betrayed, it’s Minato.
If Minato gets on Akechi’s bad side, in any way, shape or form, while Akechi is in the position he is in (a retainer) then, well… Minato’s made a big mistake.
