He stared at Maxson through his shades and the corner of his lips turned down in a frown. "Arthur-" "Dont you dare call me Arthur." With a frustrated grunt, he corrected himself. "Maxson... I don't want to do this with you. Our ideals, they're so different. I want the synths to be free and you want to destroy them. You say wouldn't take a bullet for a synth but I know how much Danse meant to you." Maxson charged at Deacon, storming up to him and grabbing a fistful of his soaked shirt to pull him closer. Deacon's hands shot up in surrender, but his frown remained as he let himself be pulled upwards. "Danse stays out of this. He-... It was a good soldier and loyal, but we could not risk keeping it within our ranks. We both know what happened, but the Brotherhood does not. I regret my decision every day. I cannot keep lying to my soldiers any longer. This ends tonight." "Arthur-" His grip tightened and Deacon was raised further off the ground. Maxson quickly pinned him to the brick wall beside them. Maxson's other hand went for the helpless man’s throat but bunched up the shoulder of his now see-through shirt. What he suddenly felt wasn't right. He knew how wrong this would be, but his body couldn't restrain itself, and suddenly Maxson's lips were on Deacons. To both parties, it felt wrong. So terribly, terribly wrong. But the way Maxson's tongue found its way into Deacon's mouth made it feel so right. When Maxson broke away neither could help the weak groans that sounded from their throats. Panting filled the space between them and Maxson released his grip on Deacon with a soft plop as his feet found the mud beneath him. Deacon clutched his chest. He knew why Maxson did it. He knew that what Maxson did wasn't for him. It was for Danse. The longing, the yearning, the regret- none of it was for him to experience. But he had to. He had to be the one to take what Maxson gave him and put it in the closet of memories he'd rather not revisit. The painful ones. The ones that filled him with sadness and hurt. The ones he wished panned out differently. This particular memory would be shut away so that he wouldn't feel the pain of having the man he loved kiss him without ever loving him back.
