"Oh, one of these...?" Dawn was intrigued by the Mystery Egg, though she wasn't necessarily "surprised."
"Ah, Taffy, will you be the one caring for this Egg? Seems difficult to care for one that you don't know the needs of..." She awkwardly laughed for a moment, before clearing her throat to stop herself.
Zipp: Oh…
*One Explanation Later*
Zipp: So this egg suddenly appeared, and you have been keeping it warm since you found it? And this Absol is actually in space and is appearing through a hologram?
*Taffy smiled, nodding at Zipp’s question. Zipp sighed and began to think about where to even begin. She turned to Dawn in order to answer their question.*
Zipp: That’s the one thing we at least know for sure. The egg just needs to stay warm for now, which Taffy has been taking care of. What I’m more concerned about is the odd aura it is giving off. It’s almost like a Joymaker Pokemon, but that can’t be possible. A Joymaker Pokemon isn’t born. They can only become one by making a wish to a Jirachi.
Taffy: So… you don’t know what we should do?
Zipp: Well, there really isn’t much we can do for now. We don’t know where it came from, so there isn’t any place we can return it to. And I don’t think that it was teleported to us on accident either…
I guess the best thing to do would be to take it to a more stable area and wait until
*Taffy’s smile grew at Zipp’s statement. She excitedly began to trot in place in excitement.*
Taffy: So you’re saying… we’re gonna get to spend more time together??
Zipp: Yeah, I guess so!
The group is now going back to their home universe!
(@ask-team-searchlights) "Um...what's this ring?" -Gen
"Oh-ho! Now, Gen, you simply just can't call it 'this ring'!" Kasla enthusiastically piped up. She continued, "This is a special gift from the esteemed Hoopa Caryophyllus! It is one of many that have been entrusted to our crew to use in attaining Finality I's goal!" Her tone then became a bit more prideful, saying, "There was simply no one better than us to fulfill such a role, ohoho!"
Dawn nodded along to her companion's words. Though all she said was simple and true, it still was a bit hard to keep up with such enthusiasm. "This little 'calling' function is one of the intended uses of Hoopa's ring, really," she added once Kasla finished talking. "The multiversal aspect wasn't expected, but we're confident it's safe to use. Hoopa themselves gave us their word on it."
what the!? art in askfinality1!? featuring @askghostishdreamers !? no way!!
@destino-and-co / @ask-the-royal-absol has a little human drawing challenge, and i thought it might be a bit fun to join in :D
featuring dawn, victor, griffin, and artemis doing... things! two of these are small spoilers- being events that'll happen in the future- but i think they're okay to share lol. consider it a bit of "hype," so to say... the other two are, of course, things that've happened already.
none of these guys have absolutely definitive human designs, because they're not humans, but its fun to dabble in this stuff sometimes, cuz why not :)
...how come the weird decidueye gets glasses, while dr. kasla has to stick to contacts!?
Dawn walked down a long corridor, each step of hers gracefully bouncing off the floor; they were in space, after all. Looking to her side, she could see an endless void, and the only thing visible were a few stars scattered around. She really couldn't believe it - this has never been a common opportunity, not in the history of Pokemon nor humanity. And now, she was here, part of a mission to begin changing that.
Kind of.
She really doesn't know how she weaseled into this place. She's a scientist, sure, but she's a geneticist. It's got nothing to do with astronomy and the like. And even though the crew have been nothing but happy to have her around, she still felt pretty distant from everyone. Sure, she had her training, and she knows generally basic things - but beyond that, she's got zero knowledge on what the rest of the crew can endlessly talk about. Even her own reason for being here just felt like a half-baked excuse, no matter how important someone could say it was.
Still, Dawn's here now. It isn't exactly easy to back out at this point, being over four hundred thousand kilometers away from home and all. And she has been able to start gathering new data for her own job, too, so she supposed it was gonna be fine.
Continuing to look off at the side, Dawn didn't realize that she was about to bump into someone!
"O-Oh, I'm so sorry, Dr. Kasla, I...!"
"Oh - no, no, it's fine, Dr. Bluebells!" Kasla let out a short chuckle. She looked back out the window into space, continuing, "I understand, space is very much an entrancing thing, is it not? I could never blame you for getting lost in it all!" There was a clear emotion in Kasla's voice, one of pure joy and awe. That's how she sounds like every time she talks about space, anyway. It was easy to see her absolute dedication to this mission and space in general. No wonder she's the lead astrophysicist.
Dawn sat down next to Kasla, looking again at the stars. "... Haha, it's all just so... bewildering," she replied, "the way I - no, we get to be here. Feels like a dream."
The sound of what seemed to be a ringing phone cut between the two before either could continue their conversation. Both turned around to look toward the source: One of the doors - labeled the storage room - on the other wall of the corridor.
"Uh..." Dawn quickly spoke first. "Dr. Kasla, will you check on that, or do you want me to...?" She sounded so awkward - and she mentally beat herself up for that. In front of such an important crew member, too? Dear Arceus...
"Hmm..." Kasla seemed a bit deep in thought. Then, she suddenly moved toward the door, turning back to Dawn. "How about both of us take a look, doctor?"
"Oh, uh, sure! Of course!" Dawn happily agreed. Though, she still had to swat away the idea that Kasla only said this out of pity; Dawn doesn't necessarily get included nor include herself in anything the others do. But it was fine! It's fine!
Kasla nodded, and the both of them walked towards the door. A light above the door turned green when they got close, and the door slid open. "Uh, you may go first!" Dawn said, taking a step back.
"Ah, now of course an esteemed scientist like yourself knows kind manners!" Kasla laughed, before doing as Dawn said. Dawn quickly followed her from behind, letting out a short chuckle alongside her.
Now inside the storage room, they found something... interesting.
Dawn looked around cautiously, scanning the surrounding boxes and various other containers. Then, she focused on what was in the middle of the room...
A bright, golden ring, floating in mid-air. It spun itself around slowly, emitting the same ringing sound that Dawn and Kasla were hearing.
"... It's activated on its own," Dawn quietly commented.
Kasla sighed, lowering her body for a moment. "I suppose we can't expect much from something so unpredictable," she replied, unafraid to speak at her voice's regular volume. Then, her tone became a bit more cheery; "I'm simply glad it has cooperated for so long!"
"True, haha...!" Dawn nodded. "Uh, but I guess we should... you know, start answering calls?" She sheepishly added, sitting down on the floor and scratching her neck.
"Of course, of course!"
Kasla headed over to the golden ring without fear, and reached out to it with one of her arms. It reacted immediately, locking into a horizontal position. From what seemed to be within it, a magenta-colored hologram opened up. It displayed a simple statement, and a simple choice.
{ MULTIPLE CALLS FROM THE MULTIVERSE ARE ARRIVING! }
{ WILL UNIVERSAL-HOPE ANSWER? }
{ YES | NO }
Kasla looked at the text on the hologram for a moment, before turning back to face Dawn. Dawn, after noticing her, nodded in understanding. With that, Kasla looked back at the hologram, and pressed { YES }.
Dawn, in complete honesty, found herself enjoying these little questions. She thought she wouldn't be asked all too many - and yet, between her and Dr. Kasla, she'd been the one getting most of the questions. Not that Kasla seemed to mind, but she still felt a bit guilty to take the spotlight away from her so often. After all, Dr. Kasla was much more important to this mission than Dawn herself really should be. She's the one who actually dedicated so much of her life to space, shouldn't she be the one getting all the questions? Maybe the multiverse really is this unpredictable...
All of a sudden, Dr. Kasla took a deep sigh of relief. "Ahaha, thank Zekrom..." She mumbled.
"Huh?" Dawn tilted her head as she faced Kasla, continuing, "Is something wrong, Dr. Kasla...?"
Oh dear, did Dawn do something to upset her? Make her feel discomfort? The unpleasant ideas raced through her head as she waited for Kasla's response.
"Oh, no, no, quite the opposite, actually...!" Kasla chuckled. "I'm simply glad that... certain things... weren't mentioned to me, is all," she said. Her voice clearly had an underlying negativity to it, but what specifically it was, Dawn couldn't tell.
... Dawn did know that there was some sort of "incident" of sorts that happened a long while ago, which Kasla was affected by. At least, that's what Commander Vinehearth told her. He didn't seem to want to say anything else about it. If it still seemed to weigh her down even now, then...
Maybe the concern became apparent on Dawn's face, but Dr. Kasla took notice of it. "Hm? Dr. Bluebells, you shouldn't concern yourself with such details," she said, "at least, right now, they don't concern you." She sounded noticeably stern with her words; it was almost like a warning of sorts.
"Oh, uh, alright then!" Dawn sharply turned away, hiding her face. This side of Kasla's wasn't something she was used to. It wasn't "normal." She didn't know how to feel about that. Is it really because of this whole calling thing? But, no...
Maybe she should just listen to her words - she shouldn't concern herself with this...
"Oh? The two of you alone in a room together?"
"Wh- Huh!?"
Standing at the door, Xanthiell Sterre had somehow entered without a noise to alarm either Dawn or Kasla. Though, in fairness, they are the one who made the doors so silent. Maybe it was to scare her crewmates like this.
"Ah, greetings, Ms. Sterre!" Kasla immediately piped up. "Would you like to join us here?"
Still recovering from the jumpscare, Dawn was luckily able to string together a cohesive response based off of Kasla's words. "Yes, uh, Hoopa's ring had activated, so we were entertaining it before you had shown up!"
"I see, I see..." Sterre put a hand to her chin as she walked inside, closing the door behind her. "Here I was, worried the two of you were up to no good, hihihi~"
Before either of them could clarify what she meant, Sterre turned to Kasla, answering her request. "Well, I'd love to join the two of you here! How could I ever pass off an invitation from Dr. Victor Kasla herself, hm?" They chuckled, before turning to the ring. Victor and Dawn follow suit.
Xanthiell Sterre is now available for asks! :) (ask hints for them will be available after the first ask for them is answered :))
The leading astrophysicist and one of the main software developers for Finality I. Easily the youngest member on board Finality I, at 24 years old. She tends to lead with an overtly grandiose and even self-centered personality, but it's clear that such aspects are played up for comedic purposes to raise the group's spirits. Outside of this, she is incredibly dedicated to her work and her team, and won't stop at anything to keep everything running as best as can be.
( @palemountainpeaks ) Uya @ Dawn: "Greetings. Do forgive my eavesdropping, but I believe I heard something about a moon... 'subtype'? If it is no trouble for you, would you tell me more? I have a connection, of sorts, to the moon myself, so I suppose I cannot help myself but be curious."
"Oh, wow, you are a very stunning Pheromosa..." Dawn mumbled, somewhat shocked to see a Pheromosa asking her about such - her appearance also struck Dawn as fascinating, but she decided not to bring it up. "Oh, uh- Yes, the Moon-subtype! I'd love to expound on that one!"
"A subtype is essentially just a trait that modifies the effectiveness of certain typings against other typings. It's a pretty recent and a rare phenomenon, so research is actively being done to further our understandings of it. I've spoken about subtypes in general here before, actually...
But, anyway...! The Moon-subtype can affect a Pokemon's Psychic, Fairy, Dark, or Ghost typings. It basically changes the resistances and weaknesses the Pokemon gains from those typings to be way more resistant to the Dark and Ghost types, whilst also becoming somewhat weaker to the Water and Ground types... Or at least, that's what we've gathered about it."
"Uhh, hmm, did I forget to mention anything else...?" Dawn looked off to the side in thought. "Oh, right - there's this folktale that seems related to the Moon-subtype's origins. It's basically about an unknown wolf Pokemon who descended from the Moon itself, and all the Pokemon who befriended it was blessed by the wolf. The blessing's effects line up pretty well with the Moon-subtype's effects on Pokemon, so most of us just agreed it was probably the same thing. Now, all we need to figure out is the real story behind the folktale...
... And maybe I'll be finding it on this trip! I mean, that's why I'm on this spacecraft anyway, haha...!"
The entire time Dawn was talking about the Moon-subtype, Sterre seemed to be uncomfortably looking off to the side...?
One of the mechanical engineers for UNIVERSAL-HOPE, and one of two payload specialists in Finality I. She is generally unserious and relaxed most of the time, acting as a mediator and making sure the crew has no stress or tension between themselves. Being one of the older crew members on board, she also tends to care for the younger crewmates as if they were her own children. Though it may take a lot of pressure, they can be serious when the situation calls for them to be.
