5-year-old Meme: Accepting

Seemingly on his own, a small blond lad strolled along the path, his head swiveling back and forth as he tried to see as much as he could. After ten(?) minutes of this, however, he had to stop and sit down from dizziness. But the spot where he’d stopped seemed rather comfortable, so he decided to stay a little longer. He reached into one of his pockets and pulled out a cookie to nibble on as he sat, listening to the natural ambiance.

"I wanna see the big boat! All of it!" Artemis announced out of nowhere one morning, bouncing in her chair excitedly. “Puh-leeeeeaaaaassssssse?” She hadn’t been allowed on board the Jolly Roger, since Bellona didn’t want the cubs to be around the crew of pirates until they were older, but she and Drake both knew about it. The little wolf stared at her parents, gold eyes wide and sparkling with hope. Drake didn’t say anything, instead only leaning forward slightly in anticipation of the answer. Bellona looked at James as well, not wanting to say ‘no’ without his input.

“Nah. Not apple. If I wanted Apple, I would have asked her. You’re the one I heard had a keen eye for this game. Come on and join us. If we lose, you can blame me, and I will say Alistair cheated.” He winked playfully at both of them, obviously not serious. “Now the question is are we playing normal rules or wonderland rules?”

Nora looked down at her shoes, her discomfort slowly becoming apparent. “I don’t know who has been telling you about my abilities, but I’m afraid they were greatly exaggerating. I can’t help you against Alistair.” She muttered, lifting her head when the blond stepped closer and put a gentle hand on her shoulder.

“Don’t be so down on yourself, Nora. There’s no way you’d do anything but improve his dreadfully poor chances of beating me.” He joked with a glance at James to communicate he wasn’t actually insulting the pirate. He then offered a small smile that grew momentarily when the girl returned it.

“I appreciate your vote of confidence, but again I must decline. I hope you understand, Alistair...” She was already pulling away from him and turning to go again as she spoke, “I’m sorry James, I really can’t help you...”

As soon as the words left her mouth, her cheeks flushed red, and she forced an awkward little laugh before babbling, “I-I mean, my roommate’s out of town so you could sleep in her bed if you want to? So you don’t have to take a cab or something, hehe.”
