Shadow is very unique in that I can explore darker themes that I wouldn't normally be able to write and I just eat that stuff up. His whole story is incredibly dark and the more you dig in, the more horrific it gets. We'd ever get something like SA2 from SEGA nowadays.

He's such a deeply complex character to explore and I adore picking every little detail apart and studying him under a microscope like the lil fucked up science experiment he is.

arktos is in the terrible predicament of being an immortal with mortal tendencies . yes , he's winter-as-greed manifest & is often regarded as having no soul- something he's very upfront about- but then there's... the other parts .

loneliness is one of them , a BIG one , but i think it's part of a greater truth the old bogey cannot confront because of the sheer hopelessness of it in his situation . or more accurately , it requires him to give up his power & control over the material world .

love terrifies him . it has the power to change him , so that means it has the power to destroy him . its bad enough that he couldn't get RID of it in his kingdom , or that it came back to bite him in his attempt to weaponize it- but the risk of him metaphorically catching fire ?

he fears it just as he fears death: it cannot touch him , but its there . staring him in the face all the time , coaxing him into the flame . & the secret part ? it's that , perhaps , somewhere deep inside , he wants it to .
