Hey Brakken! I love your Makeoververse, I've been here since..I think 2024?

Anyways since I have an obsession with the symbiote, did you ever elaborate on how Peter gets the symbiote, or for that matter, gets it off?

I don't think I ever talked much about it, but I had planned to do a written story showing how he acquires the Symbiote.

Sometime after Norman Osborn's death, Peter breaks into Stark Tower looking for something that could bring him back. He gets discovered by Tony while doing so, and they have a brief tête-à-tête, wherein Tony asks him if he would consider joining the Avengers, and because of where's at, Peter turns him down. Peter doesn't find what he's looking for, but he manages to steal an 'unknown substance' as a consolation prize, which ends up being the Symbiote.

I never finished writing it unfortunately, though maybe I'll try to at some point - I did like some of the mirroring of Tony and Norman in it, and the foreshadowing for the Black Suit.

...as for how he gets it off - well that's another story 😳😳

I draw most of my spidey stuff in a 5000x5000 px document, so I can keep track of unfinished ideas and sketches. If a particular drawing starts getting too layer-heavy (usually the comics), I’ll save it into its own file.

As for brushes, when I used Photoshop I couldn’t ever really pick one size/type that felt right for the makeoververse. I’ve shifted to using Clip Studio Paint for all my Spidey stuff now, and after some experimentation, really enjoy the G-pen for lines.

Gotta have that stabilization or else I would die. The PS equivalent of this brush would be something like a hard round with slight opacity and size pressure.

I use the Lighter Pencil or Rough Pencil for sketches usually. Sometimes I’ll use Lighter Pencil for linework as well, as you can see on this li’l sneak preview:

I cropped that at 100% zoom, so if you fullview it should give you a good idea of how big my lines are.

Thanks so much! Yes, this is something I have been pondering on - I think I’m waiting for the inspiration for it rather than deciding to change one for the sake of it. I love ITSV’s Doc Ock a bunch - although wouldn’t have minded seeing a more heavyset design, seeing as Ock is typically portrayed as such. My visual for Ock is still a bit loose, so hey maybe that’ll be first genderswap to show up. We’ll see! Definitely open to it for whenever the idea hits :)

He does some great stuff! And yeah, you might be right - although I was surprised to see Gwen’s fresh appearance in ITSV - so maybe, with the right writer/artist combo that’s courageous enough to push the designs, we’ll see something like that for MJ in the comics :)

Fun fact, back in 2015 I had originally considered giving MJ an undercut in Makeover - something like this:

... which would have made my Peter and MJ preeeeeetty similar to ITSV’s Miles and Gwen, haha. (This isn’t a ‘they copied me’ thing of course - just funny to see!)

Doctor Octavius is the big one, for sure. And Peter sees Osborn as a sort of mentor early on, but catches on that Norman is manipulative, and that muddies his trust with other such figures going forward. But Otto’s solid. I mean, the guy doesn’t have a mean bone in him - and a brilliant scientist to boot. He’s the perfect mentor and there would be no reason to ever think otherwise!

Johnny Storm is also a bit of a role model, for Spider-Man. I think Peter sees something truly admirable in Johnny’s ability to be incredibly caring and giving under the guise of seeming nonchalant attitude.

ooh, interesting. 

My very first thought was that I’d want the whole movie to be scored by The Wombats! I love their upbeat yet melancholy sound that I think would be really versatile for the spectrum of moods a Spidey story brings. Most of their songs are about romantic heartbreak, but they also carry that energy of “this is painful but I’m doing it anyway”. Glitterbug is my favourite album of theirs and the song that hits this best is Headspace. 

It would be fun to feature something from Spider-Man: Rock Reflections of a Superhero. Probably High Wire or Count on Me.

Here are some others that come to mind:

Cheerleader - On Your Side. This is Peter & MJ. When their close friendship shifts into romantic feelings, and suddenly all this mutual support means so much more. ‘I’ve been on your side, all this time.’

Astronautalis - The River, The Woods. Peter’s beaten, and he’s thought about quitting. But he won’t. He’ll stitch his wounds and run back into the fight.

DYLYN - American Nightmare. This is a Mary Jane track, from before we meet her in Makeover. To me it’s her ‘breaking out of where I am’ song.

Saltwater Sun - The Wire. I don’t think this would be on a soundtrack so much, but it’s definitely a song that fits with my version of Harry. It sort of lures you in with the loud intro, and then is just one tragic lyric after another.

In this ‘verse it’s actually Miles who’s the wrestling fan! I have a little comic thingy in mind for that and how it ties in with him learning to be Spidey. Should be fun :)

I have thought about that, or a patreon-type something, but I’ve never really been comfy with getting paid for this as an unlicensed fan story. I appreciate the enthusiasm, though ^_^ 

If enough folks were keen, what I’d probably do is have a general support tier, where you could give a small pledge just to help me focus on my personal projects, including this ‘verse.

Current plans are he’ll end up with MJ, but I’ve not really scratched the surface of Peter/Gwen yet! It’s always a bit of a struggle on what to show y’all simply for time reasons - been thinking that next year I might do a series of single-page ‘glimpses’ into different scenes in the story - as if I just put up one page from a full-length comic. And perhaps some scenes done in writing with accompanying images, if you’d be interested in that. Just pondering ways to give a wider view of the ‘verse.
