Merasmus appears to be struggling to open and maintain a powerful, but small portal anchoring the two worlds. As he takes a deep breath and bolts through, he turns around just in time to see a ginger-haired silhouette running from afar.

Then the connection severs, and the portal snaps closed.

It’s a feeling he’ll never get used to, the void separating two worlds. Suffocating dark wrapping around you, unable to breathe as you have to battle your way towards the exit, knowing that if you’re lucky, you only have a second to spare. And if you’re not, you’ll be lost forever. He’s terrified.

He stretches forwards, and leaps out of the other side of the link, tumbling onto the ground and rolling into the grass, gasping for air. It’s a full moon tonight, and a stray wizard has found himself in a version New Mexico, so similar to where he had came from, but knowing that nobody here will be the same.

And with that, he promptly passes out on the sparse, gravelly grass.

OVERWHELMING!!!

The blinding pillar of neon green light can be witnessed for miles around as it erupts into the sky, spilling over the clouds and dyeing them varying shades of emerald. The burst of magical energy is felt as a rising buzz in your chest, until it too becomes unbearable.

Soon, it ebbs away for those outside of the immediate area, but Merasmus is slumped on the floor, magic overflowing through an already saturated vessel. It begins taking shapes and forms of its own volition, each subtle, accidental twitch of his fingers sending crackling energy ricocheting across the room.

I-I’ve never… I haven’t… N-Not in… Decades…Maybe- Longer… Never… This- This strong…

He lets out a panicked, but surprisingly merry laugh.

I- It’s… It’s quite overwhelming..! I-I’ll admit… But… But I- This much magic… Under my control…

I… I think it is, anyway..?

Hahahah! It’s… Amazing! I haven’t… Ever had… The time to- to prepare- though… Mortals-

Oh dear… They don’t know what I mean by the changing of seasons, do they..?

It’s not the colder weather we have to worry about… No, it’s what comes with it.

Though… It’s been decades since it’s happened! Perhaps I’m in a safe universe! Perhaps things will be alright!!!

But… Knowing how unstable this place is… No, it’s best not to think about it.

And did I suffer for it? Absolutely.

But I can’t let anyone else have that responsibility. It has befallen only me, and the truth is not for anybody else to bear.

And that makes me a coward.

Uh well my friend lost his lower legs a few years bsck and is sick and tired of the prosthetics.

Ah! Well, prosthetics are wonderful inventions, they look very nice as well, but I suppose they already know that, hm?

I suppose I could share a few incantations and spells of mine… I cannot show them being cast, yet, but I should warn you…

These spells are merely short acting solutions, and they may not be exactly what you’re looking for.

If magic could heal all wounds, even perfectly recreating limbs, then it would be far more widespread knowledge by now.

Unfortunately, this is not the case. Animal limbs, wooden limbs, even ethereal ones could be grown in place of the original, but a true regrowth would require multiple spell-casters, wizards, scholars, maybe even divine intervention, I’m afraid.
