“Why’s it good ta’ be a bounty hunter?” I repeat as I look down at the Vulpix with a discolored leg, raising an eyebrow.
Now I know many bounty hunters out there that would be offended by such a question worded in that way, but ol’ Dycae ain’t like that. Instead I let out a good-natured laugh and squat down, a friendly grin on my face.
“Well now, I can see where ya’re comin’ from.” I chuckle. “Bein’ a bounty hunter is risky business, since ya need ta’ deal with folks who are often rather dangerous. Most cases they’re not someone ta’ mess with unless ya have the necessary skills, if ya know what I mean.”
I stand back up, crossing my arms over my chest. “Now, I’ll tell ya why bein’ a bounty hunter is a good job. The first bein’ that ya can bring in these folks ta’ justice, ‘cus sometimes even the law has their limits. The cops can’t always chase these folks down since they still need ta’ protect their own towns an’ stuff, so us hunters are the ones that go after ‘em.”
I pat the side of my belt, causing the coins in a hidden pocket to jingle. “An’ the pay is very good too dependin’ on the bounty, the more dangerous tha’ fella...the more money ya’ll make. It can be a good livin’ if ya keep a straight head on ya shoulders, an’ ya get ta’ lock up or kill criminals while ya’re at it.”
“But,” I continue, my grin melting into a frown. “it’s not a job for tha’ weak or lighthearted. Ya need ta’ be strong an’ smart, since there’s a reason why these folks have a bounty on their head. Most cases they’ve done some real bad things, so a hunter needs ta’ know what they’re dealin’ with when they accept a bounty. Don’t hurt ta’ get someone ta’ watch ya back, if ya’re willin’ ta’ split the bounty of course.”
The more I talk, the more I realize that this Vulpix actually doesn’t seem to be a kid. Nevertheless I mentally shrug it off and continue. “So that’s kinda it, really. Very hard work, but the pay is real good and ya get some real good braggin’ rights.” Slowly I smile again. “...But it’s also nice ta’ make tha’ world a bit safer, so folks can sleep better. Hope that answers ya question.”
