Happy Anniversary, Swag!
You were one of the very first askblogs I came about in this fandom. It's been amazing to see you interact with nearly everyone in the fandom, whether it be popping into Tinychats or sending a little message here or there.
Thank you for keeping us all up on our feet, both Once-lings and Once-luts alike. Thank you for sticking around, Swag.
Oh my god you guys. I'm sitting here seriously about to cry.
Some of the most--actually probably THE most prevalent memories I have from my early experiences with the fandom involve me sitting in my school's video labs late at night, stiff with stress about whatever thing I had to get edited and exported before class the next day, listening to my ipod to music that reminded me of Once-ler, and opening Swag Once-ler's blog on one computer while my project processed on another. To the sound of the sunny tunes of Sugar Ray, I'd scroll through Swag's blog and giggle as quietly as I could manage at his answers, feeling my face get hot in response to how attractive he could be, sitting all alone under the buzzing fluorescent lights, the deep urban night on the other side of the building's glass walls. In those few precious spare moments, I gathered the strength, the comfort to go on through those last few grueling weeks of school. And I dreamed of summer. And I told myself, dammit, if all of this is still going after I get out of here, I WILL be a part of it.
And right then, right there, on those tough nights, my exhausted body feeling the effects of the warm glow of Swag's bright green background breaking into that grey and white room, delectably welcome in its utter OPPOSITEness, I realized that I had stumbled upon something special. And I wanted to give back to these people all they had given to me.
And here I am, again, right as I type this, in the video lab of my school, working on another project, and listening to music, and looking through Swag's blog. A full year later. I never could imagine I'd be able to say this back on those spring nights of my Freshman year. And yet there he is, still going strong. And here we ALL are, myself included.
Still making each other happy, still existing as a haven for anyone who's stuck in a video lab on a dark, dark, night.
