Considering all the research you have poured into regarding certain aspects of Yuppie Psycho, there is one thing that is still bugging me: Reivil (or Princess Rei) from the Sintra residence route. Who or what is she? What is her connection to Domori's snake?
hi hi! i have spent some time thinking about how to best answer this ask, since i rarely see people talking about princess rei outside of how scary she is. even in-game, we see very little of princess rei, despite her being the main threat in the sintra residence route. with what we do know about her, i assume she is just a physical manifestation of the witch's powers, like the other monsters we encounter at sintracorp. it seems she only serves as another creature stopping brian from reaching the witch (and leading him to other locations) with no other real purpose or hidden identity, other than her being an obvious mimicry of rei sintra.
i gave some thought to the idea that she is also possessed, but is a possessed corpse rather than a living person. i find this extremely unlikely, since rei's soul was burnt along with domori's body (the only other version of her soul is digital), and rei's body is safety contained within the crystal/ice. additionally, the disfigurements on princess rei's face does not represent a burning at all, rather a brutal murdering. you could argue that domori's burning is still a brutal slaughtering and her design is supposed to represent that, and though this may be true, i still doubt her being possessed.
i do want to note that she stops her attacks once mr. devil and brian swap places, and she never seems to attack kate when she is possessed by xiu ying. this in itself suggests that she (and perhaps the witch as well) does not see mr. devil as a threat at the time. i believe this is due to the three of them having to "pretend" to be the sintra family and to allow the transition from mr. devil to domori in the purge by fire scene, and not really due to anything dealing with the story. it does feel quite strange, though... i am open to any thoughts you or anyone else might have on the matter. ^^
