Yo so my friend and I did this role play kinda like ANC but like, Ganondorf is reborn as Link's older sister and the whole time both of them grow up the kingdom is like "KEEP HER AWAY FROM HIM BEFORE SHE CURSES HIM OR SOMETHING HE NEEDS TO GROW UP AND KILL HER" all the while Link grows up acting like a innocent blepping cinnamon roll for his big sister and saying he'll protect her!! But the moment this 11 year old is alone with people that aren't his big sis "I will kill you all slowly :)"

AGH *INTERNET HUGS* I wish I knew how to help but I only just figured out how to talk about aspergers, like, in the past 3 years and by that point I’d lost 3 neurotypical friends because they didn’t know how to communicate and I didn’t know how to explain! Because I can slide by under the radar as “Oh, she’s just shy” and I don’t have a lot of outward signs (besides getting really absorbed into activities), I’ve never been diagnosed and only realized I was on the spectrum because my nephew was diagnosed with it, and watching him grow up I realized, “Holy crap, we think so similarly…” He’s noticably aspies, though, so even then it took me forever to make the connection that I was on the spectrum too.If you want to try to explain to them… here’s how I explained aspergers to a friend through text just the other day. This is from my experience but feel free to use any of it that makes sense for you:“So, for neurotypicals, emotional cues are easy to pick up on. It’s instinctual for a normal person to pick up on how another person is feeling. Aspergians don’t pick up on emotional cues easily; that part of our brain acts differently. Emotional cues pass right by us unless we train ourselves very hard to pick up on them. But even then, most of the time we have to rely on exactly what the other person says, trust what they say to be true. Sarcasm, for instance, relies on emotional cues– and goes right over my head. And sometimes through text, it’s very difficult to tell if someone is being sarcastic, if they just need a friendly ear, if I’m being prompted to give advice, or be a mentor.” In response to when they said, “It’s really hard to tell what you’re feeling,” I said:“As an Aspergian I’m not great at expressing my emotions in a casual way. They tend to build and build until I find a release through art or crying or exercise. So most of the time I’m repressing emotions. I also suffer from depression which encourages me to repress emotions as well.”I’ve been thinking about this explanation lately: It’s like neurotypicals are psychic and don’t know it, and aspergerians are psychically deaf. “Psychically deaf” is a trope I’ve used in two of my comics, and I think it’s the best way to explain how I think differently from most people, though I don’t think it would land with a neurotypical audience because they’ll just think, “That’s stupid! Of course I’m not psychic!” Even if you say emotionally psychic they wouldn’t get it. It probably only makes sense from an aspies point of view.Everyone has heard the phrase, “I can’t hear what you don’t say,” but for neurotypicals it’s: “I can’t hear what you don’t subconsciously communicate through inflection and emotion,” while for aspies it’s “I can’t hear what you don’t say in a literal fashion.”Me and a neurotypical friend just had a text conversation about aspergers, and I think it was very revealing for both of usThem: When I’m not feeling well you keep turning it into a conversation about you.Me: Well when you’re not feeling well, how do you communicate that?Them: Well, I start talking in short sentences and I say “Yeah,” or “Fine,” or “Okay.” Or “Whatever.”Me: OH MY GOD I’VE BEEN TAKING YOU LITERALLY!
