Blue is arguably one of the most universally flattering colours for all ages and genders. It can be worn year-round, and looks good on everyone, once you find the right shade to suit your skin tone.

Your skin tone refers to the underlying shade of pink, yellow or blue tones in your skin’s hue. These shades cannot be changed by fake tan – and ultimately, your tone will decide what clothing colour supports your colouring and what shades will wash you out completely. Once you’ve identified whether you have cool or warm colouring, it’s about finding the right shade of blue to suit you. Almost any shade of blue works great on people with cool skin tones (like Nicole Kidman, Kristen Stewart and Amy Huberman). Any colour with blue undertones, like shades of green, purple, grey or navy, will brighten up your skin.

5 Golden Rules For Wearing Stripes

                                Many women fear that wearing stripes will make them look bigger and thus avoid them like the plague. However, stripes not only offer an always-on-trend print choice, going with virtually anything, but also, when styled correctly, they can also be incredibly flattering. Here are our top tips for wearing stripes that will ensure you nail the sailor-chic trend without adding unnecessary bulk to your frame.

                                      1. Opt for Vertical Stripes

While I don’t necessarily believe all horizontal stripes will make you look bigger, vertical stripes will indeed make you look taller. If you want to lengthen your torso, try a vertical stripe classic Breton top with block colour jeans, or team a vertical stripe trouser with a simple top for instantly longer legs.

                                 2. Choose Your Stripes Wisely

Pay attention to the placement of stripes, and use them to your advantage. Horizontal stripes will add some width, which can be great for adding curves to boyish figures or the illusion of a bigger bust, hips or bum if desired. Avoid horizontal stripes on your problem areas, opting for vertical or diagonal stripes instead.

                                          3. Vary Your Widths    

If you’re choosing horizontal stripes, pay attention to the stripes’ width. Two stripes of the same width will be less flattering than choosing two varying widths (one thick, one thin).

                                               4. Add Panels

If you’re conscious that a horizontal stripe is going to make you look bigger on top, then break up the stripe by adding your own side panels in the form of a block-colour blazer, cardigan or jacket. These darker panels will instantly trick the eye inward towards the print, elongating your frame and giving the illusion of a slimmer silhouette.

                                             5. Break It Up

If you’re going for head-to-toe stripe, break up the print with a thick block colour belt worn at the narrowest part of your silhouette – your waist.
