Spotted at COP:

What are you most likely to lose at COP-21? It’s not your room key, your USB drive, or your passport...it’s your coffee cup. Conference organizers have gone all-in on sustainability with reusable plastic coffee cups that participants can return to receive a 1 Euro deposit.

Overnight, these plastic cups have become as good as currency. Spotted: participants scooping up coffee cups off empty tables and desks, returning several at a time. Find enough, and you’ve got lunch covered.

On Friday, December 5, we also hosted a Reddit AMA with Dr. David Reidmiller and Dr. Farhan Akhtar, two Climate Science Advisors at the U.S. Department of State. Our scientists answered questions CO2 emissions, what other countries are doing to mitigate climate change, and what everyday people can do to help solve climate change. While the official event is over, the conversation on climate change is still going on so take a look!

Engage With Climate Experts at the #COP20 U.S. Center

This week and next, climate change negotiators from all over the world will gather for the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Conference of the Parties (COP-20) in Lima, Peru.

These two weeks of UN climate talks are a prime opportunity to spotlight the urgency and seriousness of climate change. Running parallel to the negotiations is the U.S. Center, which hosts climate specialists and scientists from U.S. government agencies, non-profits, academia, and private sector groups to engage with conference participants and virtual audiences.  

Not in Lima? Not a problem. Participate in events online by visiting the U.S. Center's YouTube Channel. You can submit questions to presenters through the live-stream, chat box on the Youtube Live Event page, through the YouTube comment section, or through Twitter using the hashtag #AskUSCenter.
