Always love hearing your E33 thoughts soooo Gustave, Renoir, or Maelle for character asks?
thank youuuuuuuuu I really wanted the chance to yap about Gustave and Maelle :) [skipping on Renoir, so this ask doesn't run forever though sdkfjhsjkdf]
character asks
favorite thing about them
Gustave: Whenever he feels something, he's really feeling it. His hatred towards the Paintress, hope for the success of the expedition, the complete desperation in the aftermath of meeting Renoire - he experiences all of those emotions so deeply, and it's one of the thing that immediately drew to him. Great contrast to the usual stoic TM male protag, because Gustave's heart is always on his sleeve (one of the hottest places for a heart to be).
Maelle: Had to get up from my chair and pace around the room before I could deliver an answer to that one, because it's *such* a hard pick. What if I said that I love everything. What then!
But, to pick just one thing, I'm really enamoured with narratives about someone reclaiming their personal freedom and agency after a long time of being denied it, even if that freedom is not the healthiest choice. Maelle knew what she wanted when she signed up for the expedition at the bright age of 16, and she knows what she wants when she's choosing to stay in the Canvas. It's not the best or the optimal choice, but it's mine kind of thing.
Also, to be super-superficial, I love her Act 3 design, both the hair and the outfit. The way the half-skirt moves as she is running is just so aesthetically pleasing....
least favourite thing about them
Gustave: Too few combat voicelines! :( I know Sandfall had Charlie Cox for like 10 minutes, and he is an Act 1-only character, but come onnn you could've given him just a few more. It really stands out in a very unfavourable way when you are replaying the game.
Maelle: Sorry to, like, avoid the question and stuff, but I really do like everything about her. She's #mypookie.
On a meta level, I guess the game could use some clarity on how Maelle's abilities compare to Aline/Clea's and how much she's capable of inside the Canvas, just so we wouldn't have the "Maelle is actually an evil PUPPETEER in her ending!!111!!!" discourse.
favorite line
Gustave:
Hobbies don’t always have to be useful. I’m enjoying the uselessness of today, and readying my usefulness for tomorrow.
It's very light-hearted considering the mood of the game, but it's really stuck with me for some reason.
Maelle:
What life? My life of loneliness in a shell of a body? With no voice and no future?
I can hear it so clearly in my head, Jennifer English absolutely KILLED with that performance.
brOTP
First of all, how about the two of them with each other :)
I'm just SO incredibly weak for whatever familial thing they have going on. There's a post in my drafts about Maelle in the prologue, and how she's just on the exact same wavelength as Gustave is, carefully combining soft and tough love to help him through meeting Sophie. He loves her, and she's trying so hard to give that love back!! And for him, Maelle is the thing that's capable of both destroying and uplifting his dream of pushing on. It's such a compelling dynamic.
For other people, though, I talked about Maelle and Lune in the ask about Lune HERE. I maintain that I like them together a lot!!
And there's the Gustave & Sciel best-friendism, of course. The way they immediately rush to hug each other when they meet at the Gestral Arena makes me sick (positive).
random headcanon
The love for dark humour is something Gustave inherited from Sophie, and then passed on to Maelle :)
unpopular opinion
Gustave: He would've respected Maelle's choice to stay in the Canvas and never would've tried to force her out 🫶 Sorry to everyone else who thinks otherwise, you just don't know him like I do
Maelle: She did nothing wrong by complying with pAlicia's request. pAlicia knew what she wanted - if that included staying alive or saying goodbye to Verso, she would've done so. Shifting blame on Maelle means infantilising a character who had lived for almost a hundred years before getting to make that choice.

Favourite ones I've taken are these two :)
Hello! I've been reading your blurbs for the Absolution episodes and they're super interesting, and it was neat reading your thoughts on Tassia and "Isn't there someone you'd give up anything to get back?" because my interpretation was that hadn't happened for her yet--the emphasis she puts on "I won't lose you" with Rezaren makes me think he WAS the person she couldn't stand to lose, and now she has and what that means for her. That said, I'm also super interested to see if I'm wrong!
hello! thanku for the kind message, I'm glad you found the blurbs interesting ◕‿◕ I put the rest of this msg under a cut just in case you haven't finished watching ^^
I’m still not over how Abigael just legit went “Is anyone gonna help Mel co-parent that baby” and then didn’t even wait for an answer
lkajslfa me neither, lmao what even was going on in her head i'm crying from the secondhand embarrassment 😭 she really said, me! this baby's daddy, that'll be me! and then just carried on like the clown that she is lmfao love her
Okay so MAYBE you got me on Kacy is there… any official source to watch online or…
YESSS 🙌😂 depends on where you're from. It's on CBS and Paramount+ in the US. If it doesn't air in your country at all or you don't have access to Paramount+ (everything is always accessible to Americans, but that's not the case with almost everyone else)... A DM might help.
I’m losing my FUCKING MIND
SAME IT'S LIKE I WAS PUNCHED BACK TO 8 YEARS AGO
