My thoughts on this cycle are mixed. I've tried watching it and it was a bore for me. It's one of my more least favorites and was hard to get through because there wasn't much. I do love the outcomes of the shot but unlike c1-2 which had memorable moments that have me remember, this cycle never really had anything for me. But whatever, I'll make it up with C4, thank you all for sticking with me!

Ayu Gani

Place: Winner

Average: 3

As a winner, Gani is the one of the better ones but personally, she would be in the middle when it comes to AsNTM. Now, I’m happy she won since she had a pretty bad attitude and always started fights with people in the house out of sheer boredom. You love to see it whenever a bitch wins, it’s something you don’t see in NTM too much. Gani was one of the most consistent models this cycle, which is good since everyone this cycle was a ride to deal with. She always constantly made good shots, which is my issue with her, she never had a breakout shot. Unlike Sheena and Jessica who, while having a few trash photos, always made amazing mind-blowing photos when they were on top. As for Gani, she just made good shots, never something that made me go “WOW” besides her badass dominatrix decades shot but hey, at least she was good on everything else. She had a really edgy face which she was able to make really commercial for the shots when asked (though her video was very corny) but the big issue for her was her body. She had really odd proportions which led her to look pretty short throughout her run (though she still was able to improve on that) and it really did screw her over at the long run since she’s one of the least successful winners from AsNTM (besides Sleepy Dana). She’s still successful and is the queen of beauty shots but compare her to Tawan and Maureen, less worthy winners but more successful in different markets. Long rant about her aside, I do think Gani was the correct choice for winner this cycle, though I do have other girls on my mind but Gani is one of the consistently good girls of the series and I do see why she won, who knows, she might grow on me.

Monika Sta. Maria

Place: 2th Place

Average: 5

Monika’s look is just WOW. Her tan skin with the freckles was just beautiful to see and her in motion was just stellar to look at. Her body was also the best of the group. It’s no surprise that Monika became so successful after the show due to her unique and quirky beauty but in the show, she was pretty weak. Monika was the noun of the model but not the verb. Besides her car, smile, and bar shot, she was a complete mess in terms of photos. I don’t get why the judges creamed over her for every shot that she made when really, she was just a mess to see. Seriously, 4 FCOs, the highest average, and the judges’ love over other worthy models like Gani and Aimee really soured my view on her. She knew how to model her body for sure though, she always knew when to keep it model but not sleazy. She did get 1 FCOs and a few SCOs for a reason but she also got a bunch of B3 as well. Plus, her runway and video skills were one of the best of the cycle so I wouldn’t say she was as horrible as Katarina since she proved at many points that she had the goods and was amazing in motion. However, like Katarina, her face was always a big issue. It was always dead and lazy. Now, in some cases, it worked but her dead face would stick out like a sore thumb all of the tine. I understand why the judges loved her due to her amazing job in motion but in photos, she was a horrible letdown (though again, HER LOOK IS SO BEAUTIFUL AAA)

Akemi "Barbara" Katsuki

Place: 4th Place

Average: 3.5

And here’s my winner! Barbara is one of the most underrated models of this cycle and it’s a damn shame she didn’t get a FCO but instead 3 B2s. She’s only my second favorite Japanese rep since my bias from Marie’s shot prevents me from doing that, plus Marie always made killer memorable shots despite her inconsistent run. As for Barbs, she made so many beautiful shots and like Aimee, was insanely versatile. She could be commercial (swimwear, smile), edgy (streets, decade), or just so perfect (Alex Perry). She always had a cheerful look in photos but she still knew how to hold it in for shots that never called for that type of stuff. She was an amazing walker (on par with Monika) and her motion in video was one of the best of the week. She got a total of 3 FCOs out of them, tied with Aimee for the most of the cycle and she never really got a B2 from me, the only shot that came close was her bar shot, which then again, I do blame her nerves. I will say, she got nervous really quick and she always let her nerves get the best of her when it came to shoots (look at bar and jewelry). However, the judges constantly talking her down and robbing her with many FCOs was just hard to watch and the girls talking about her was also really hard to see. It’s such a shame that she had such low confidence because Barbara was consistently good throughout her run and it was a damn shame she couldn’t do the final 3 photoshoot.

Amanda Chan

Place: 5th Place

Average: 7.1

Yeah, I feel like Amanda should’ve gotten so much more shit for me but unlike Jodilly and Katarina, I couldn’t bring myself to hate her so much. I LOVED her personality and in a cycle full of toxic drama, Amanda just existing being her cute ass self really saved the cycle and made it actually watchable for me. So, I’m fine with her making final 5, that said though, she was one of the worst models of the cycle. Her swimwear shot was stellar but every other shot that she made, it just was one of the worst of the week. For someone who made the final 5 with that average, it’s kinda sad to see. She just had such an uncomfortable look in all her photos and her age SHOWED a lot of the time. Her posing was very tense and uncomfortable to look and her face was one of the worst of the weeks whenever I looked into them. Her eyes were actually nice but her mouth was always so tense to look at. She never got called out for it either, instead they more worried for her age, which were the least of her problems. Her walk was nice, I will say and her body was one of the best of the bunch (seriously, those legs can go on for days, you’ll see this too when we see Cindy in C5). Overall, like Tia, I think she could’ve came in during a different cycle since I think if she’s gotten more experience, then she could’ve destroyed everyone (look at her post work too, wow).

Tahlia Raji

Place: 6th Place

Average: 5.1

Tahlia was one of my favorite models in the cycle and she along with Amanda made the cycle actually watchable for me. She was just so cheerful and goofy the entire run and it was great to see at least 2 people who just want to have fun. Team Jellyfish all the way! Her as a model though was a rollercoaster to see, probably the worst example of this in the group. She could either make badass sexy shots or garbage fires with no in between. She’s probably the most naturally sexy model of the group over Monika due to her face. As if Monika who can’t pose with her face but can do her body, Tahlia was one of the best face models but couldn’t model her body to save her life. Seriously, a lot of her closeups would be my favorite of the cycle if it weren’t for frankly bad posing. Just look at her swimwear shot, absolute beautiful face and motion but she looks like she’s farting in the jungle. It’s a shame since she made some beautiful shots, her bar is one of my personal favorites of hers and her streets is a fucking masterpiece but she either made bland boring shots or decent or good shots. I would love to see her do the decades shoot but in the end, she left at the right time, still love the girl!

Kirsteen "KB" Barlow

Place: 7th Place

Average: 6.5

KB seems to be a hotly debated model as in people = make transphobic slurs about her, which is 1) ew and 2) not hot and sexy. As for my thoughts for KB, she really exceeded my expectations. For a really forgettable girl, she had some killer shots, especially her bar shot. She, like Tahlia, knew how to model her beautiful face of her. Seriously, I think she could’ve gotten a bob cut because her face is just so edgy yet androgynous all at once and you can see in so many of her photos of her jawline just shining. Her eyes were just so stellar in person as well that it’s a shame that she couldn’t translate it to film for me. Don’t get me wrong, her face could look amazing but her posing could use some work. In many of her shots, it was either model 101 or just too much for the sake of the shot but her face always looked amazing. Shockingly, for being such a cheery person, whenever she smiled for photos, it seemed fake so it’s kinda a shame she couldn’t convert her cheerful energy to a photo. I think KB left at the right time and the hate given to her is too much.

Melissa Tan

Place: 8th Place

Average: 3.8

Melissa having an average that high is fucking shocking considering how she has a higher average than 2 of the girls in the top 5, AND SHE WAS 8TH! She was a disaster on the first episode, with her shitty runway and a meh first photo (though swimwear should not be her thing due to her naturally thin body) but then on, she just went into the sky and never came back to the ground. Her Kpop shot was the best of the week, her jewelry/bar/smile were just up her alley since it proved that she could do edgy and androgynous and hell, she even proved that she could do commercial with her collage and car, which she was unfairly given shit on and outed her. Along with Chesa, she was just the full package. She had an improving walk, an amazing look along with a stellar makeover that highlighted her best features, hell, she was one of the oldest in the group and it never showed. Seriously, she’s 27 yet always looked 18, love this bitch. Overall, she was just the full package and the judges constantly underrating her over more overrated models just added to how robbed she was and I would love to have her in my packed final 5.
