Ky jumped on his stool, his eyes leaving the screen to look at his latest guest. A small flush crept on his cheeks. "Oh! Ye-yeah I am. It's.... very Dry." He worked up spinning to face the other man. He looked close to Ky's age. Which was a nice change of pace. "Grandfather.....grand-oh! Mr. Bray! So you're also Mr. Bray!" He set the data pad down on stack of worn books with titles long faded. The man took the other's free hand shaking it. "I'm Kupier! Kuiper Rigel! My friends call me Ky! I heard that there's been hints of Vex tech on mars!! Are you in the R & D department too? What's your focus?"

He's in

a medbay? But why?

His helm throbs, but he hasn't been hurt, but it feels like something is missing, but

There is a stench like rotting dirt and he covers his nose, but the smell is still there--like rot, like dirt, like tar, like mold and ammonia and diesel and salt on the air and

The smell won't leave and he lurches to his pedes, stumbling off the berth. Someone is talking--medic? nurse? patient?--but the words don't make sense, lost amid the clutter of sound of a medbay filled past capacity and mechs dying. But the senseless burble of a voice is getting closer so they're probably talking to him but the smell won't go away

A hand on his shoulder tugs him around, and the nurse's mouth is moving but it takes longer for the words to come out, and by the time they do they make no sense. He wrenches himself back, wings and shoulders meeting the wall, but they won't stop talking at him and what is that smell?

He's pushing his way to the exit

He's out in the hall and there's an alarm beeping and lights flashing

He's outside, the ground rattles, someone is screaming, it smells

He is... he's not sure. He's... somewhere, and he's by himself and no one is talking or screaming and nothing is beeping or flashing and the smell is gone, and for a very long moment all he can do is stare at the ground between his pedes and take in the complete lack of anything.

"A sparrow makes that easier," she said with an amused flicker of jawlights.

But the amusement was quick to fade. She wasn't as old as some other Guardians like Zavala or Ikora... but immortality or not, living through what a Guardian did sometimes left impressions of its own. Her chest rose and fell, imitating a breath that pulled cooler air to her core systems.

"I am... tired of it, though. Sometimes. All the running and fighting," she said quietly. "I know that's why Guardians are here, to fight and die so others don't have to... but it would be nice to see an end to it."

Rook wasn't entirely sure what to say to that at first. She wore her heart on her sleeve, yes, that was just how she was. But she usually tried to bounce back from any... mood slumps as quickly as she could. People had their own problems; they didn't need to see any of hers on top of it.

So for someone to be so observant... it took her a bit off guard.

"I think that would happen to anyone who's lived a couple of centuries."

Almost three in her case.

Rachel-7 put a hand on Polaris-1's shoulder, her mouth plates pressed firmly together. In her own experience, becoming an exo had been meant to free her from paralysis, to let her hold her children, kiss her husband, work and play and live without worrying about being lost to her family again. But as she found out, all human solutions are flawed and being an Exo was hard in and of itself.

"I know," she said quietly, rubbing his back. "They promised a lot when it came to becoming an exo. But we all forget that even the Brays are human and even their best answers have flaws."

Rachel shifted so she was looking Polaris in the eye. "But that's where we come in. We find the problems and we work to fix them. No piece of classical art was ever made perfectly the first time and we have the power to improve things and improve ourselves. We've just got to stick with it and make the eggheads upstairs listen, y'know?” She paused and gave him a smile. "Don’t worry, no great city was made in a day and nothing worth keeping ever stayed nice without a bit of maintenance."

Clint’s foot slides against the ground as he uses his bow to block her sword swinging at him. They were sparring and Clint was a little rusty, so he knew he was going to slip up and end up on the ground, he just didn’t know when it was going to happen. He grunts as she kicks him in the chest, he stumbles backwards before landing on his back and sliding across the floor. Before he could get up she was on him, pinning him down.
