So, do you think Asriel hates Chara at the very end of True Pacifist? He did wish that he knew Frisk instead

Oh hey! Sorry about the late reply, tumblr didn't tell me I had an ask...

No, I definitely don't think that Asriel hates Chara at the end of true pacifist. What he says is that "Chara wasn't really the greatest person", and "You're the type of friend I wish I always had". This is him realizing that maybe he shouldn't idolize Chara as a perfect person and regard them as the only one who could bring him any happiness anymore, and see them more for who they are as someone with flaws (Like everyone has, and not of their own fault). And I think his comment about wishing Frisk was his friend instead is him... overcorrecting a bit and making a rather drastic statement, as well as falling into the same mistake again by now idolizing Frisk as the Better Best Friend.

This actually parallels something that happens with Monster Kid. They idolize and look up to Undyne for most of the game, then at the end of true pacifist they say that they realized she's "Just kind of mean" and that they "just found out about someone WAYYY cooler!!! Nyeh heh heh!!!". We know that Undyne isn't truly 'Just kind of mean', she's heroic and will do anything for what she believes in and to protect her friends and all of monsterkind, she's brave and determined and a bright joy in the lives of her friends. She just also has flaws, and shouldn't be idolized as a perfect person. Monster Kid doesn't say they hate Undyne now, just like Asriel doesn't say he hates Chara, it seems like they're just both dealing with some disillusionment about people they looked up to. (I wasn't the first to notice this character parallel but I can't remember who was... Sorry!!!) Above all, stronger evidence than guessing at what these characters are thinking and analyzing what they say, is what Asriel does even after he says those things. He stays behind at Chara's grave in The Ruins, because "Someone has to take care of the flowers".
