Honesty. It was important that the talk started like that and not with some sort of accusations, or shouting. And yet, he wasn't ready for such honesty between them. Maddox expected it from him too, and he couldn't do that. It would not work for him. Not yet. "So, you came here and you don't know why. You appear with a woman who obviously knows about things, and ..." he stopped himself, feeling rather helpless. Wonderful, the other had still some impact on him, after all this time. He lifted his hand, ruffled through his own short hair, and slowly opened his tie a bit. They were alone, he could say whatever he wanted, without anyone who heard him. "I know, I should have taken care to remove you from the guest list, but I seriously didn't expect you to appear, even if you were on it. I mean, what now?" What would happen now? It just didn't make sense, he didn't want to be mean, or warm up the old difficulties between them, they were in the past. But that was Daniel's real problem, he couldn't get over the fact what had happened, when he saw Maddox face - no matter how beautiful he was, he always saw him with someone else. Was he still jealous, did he still care? Well, fuck. This wasn’t supposed to happen too. The entire evening was unexpected, and it wouldn’t get any better. The last he should do was show any of it, stay calm, stay collected. And there he was, out in the dark after one of those parties he didn’t enjoy that much as he pretended to, with someone he had to pretend with, again.
