Overall Evaluation
“If you were to go back to the start of this assessment to do it again, what would you do differently to complete the task?”
To begin with, I feel that I would have started a little less ambitiously and have taken a more realistic approach towards this project, as I was not able to get quite anywhere near my original aim. Although I do have a functional rig with a high poly mesh, I don’t have an extremely in-depth rig and I am lacking a few features such as facial controls and a few features on the mesh itself, such as Zeal’s hair, most of her face, textures, etc.
Midway through this project I felt it necessary after consultation that I should focus more on one aspect of the rig, being the mesh itself, rather than spending all my time across the board.
Another thing that I would have done differently is spend perhaps less time on research and tutorials than I did throughout this project and a bit more time inside Maya doing practical work, as I feel that I was perhaps too meticulous and unnecessary in this regard.
One last thing would be to spend more time on the project in general. I feel that perhaps not as much time was spent as I would have liked on this project, partly due to workload from other subjects and partly due to some good old poor time management and procrastination. As mentioned above, I feel that out of the time spent on this project some of it should have been directed to other areas, most prominently the practical side of things.
Although there are some areas I find lacking in my final submission I do feel that I have gained quite a good understanding of the pipeline and production process of this sort of project and would have a much better understanding of how to tackle a similar project in the future.
I am quite satisfied with how my rig turned out, even if it is simple, and I am pleased quite particularly with the skin weighting, which I felt that the extra time I spent on that for the high poly mesh was worth it. I would have liked to flesh out the mesh more, particularly the face and head, but have unfortunately simply run out of time for this project.
