Less than 24 hours after our special screening of A Pebble in the Pond and we’re already making, actual ripples!!!! I don’t think she’d mind me sharing this… Carla, one of our guests on Saturday had never heard of the Assistance League before, and well, let me just let her tell you…. “Yesterday I had the privilege to view a wonderful documentary about the Assistance League. I was so inspired by this documentary, today I joined my local chapter. Thank you Ann and Paul for opening up my eyes to this wonderful organization. My first day is Wednesday, I’ll keep you posted.” Through the process of finishing this film, I kept saying that even if I created one ripple from this film, it would be worth it. Born on October 11, 1884, Eleanor Roosevelt in my humble opinion, remains one of America’s greatest! How appropriate that today, 10/11 is also the International Day of the Girl, an international observance day declared by the United Nations that supports more opportunity for girls and increases awareness of gender inequality. I think Eleanor, would have been quite happy and welcomed sharing her birthday with this important international day! Eleanor came up in the research I did for my upcoming documentary film, A Pebble in the Pond. In fact, this photo is from May of 1941 when Eleanor visited the Los Angeles Assistance League for her syndicated newspaper column titled, “My Day.” “My Day” was published between 1935 and 1962 and allowed Eleanor, for almost three decades, to educate millions of Americans, six days a week, to various political and social events happening throughout the country! While Eleanor may not have been President, she didn’t let that, or her gender limit her desire to educate and help people!
