Pet Tigers Album Release Show at Beauty Bar
Pet Tigers CD Release Show
Beauty Bar in Las Vegas
July 27, 2013
The album release show of Pet Tigers at Beauty Bar was a packed affair, in combination with a fashion show in the front room. Scantily glad ladies having their bodies painted in the windows were sure to lure the curious, out of town gawkers. DJs set the vibe of the house, filled with bustling models anticipating their upcoming moment on the runway. In the back, the three bill concert also featured locals Newsense and The Astaires. Headliners Pet Tigers have a kitschy pop punk sound and by their dress seemed to hope to follow in the lineage of groups like the B-52s. PT drew a strong crowd of friends and family, many times waving and saying hello to specific fans. At one point, they stated "If we forgot anyone just remind us and we'll announce your name on stage."
While expectations were high, their music left this fan wanting. Their sound has been done many times before. Nearly every song had the same tempo and photo wise, I had nothing else to capture after the first few songs as the band stayed cemented to their individual areas. The band who stole the show with an engaging performance was The Astaires. For fans of psych garage bands like The Black Angels, The Astaires exuded an immediate excitement thrashing on stage while maintaining alternating vocals. My favorite part of seeing local shows is having a band unknown to me make me stand up and pay attention. On Saturday night I could not have walked away happier with a new favorite local to start marking on my calendar. -Benjamin
