Just so we’re clear here: this monetized blog business, and my strong aversion to it, as nothing to do with the content creators. there’s plenty of content creators on this site who deserve to be paid for their work. However: - nothing in this roll-out addresses the fact that this is, allegedly, according to their own damn mobile app ‘the home of fandom’ and monetizing your fandom blog with marvel or disney or whatever gifs, or any kind of fanfic, is going to end very poorly and expensively - potentially for more than just that blog host. - this website is a fucking joke; I don’t mean the user base, I mean the site itself. the search function hasn’t worked in years, putting a link in a blog breaks it, the asks system is hit or miss at best, and we all know it’s being held together with shoe strings. I understand that money might help to make this better, but asking me to trust my money -- let alone a content creator to trust theirs -- to this website as it is? is...that’s a big ask fam. - jesus christ the incoming bizarre and unbelievable drama from this might actually kill me. - I don’t think it’s going to help the content theft that’s gone on where pintrest/facebook/twitter pillage posts and share them elsewhere; which is maybe the one outcome from this I’d like to see. also for the record, I can be a smarmy bitch in the survey while ALSO reminding tumblr staff that half their features are broken and that they can’t afford the inevitable lawsuits hanging over our heads when fandom tries to turn a profit.
