A sketch and a rare Travis POV drabble 🪓
Jennifer sitting on a tree stump as she cradles Jessica's head on her lap. She combs through her hair, fiddling with the blue and white flowers looped around her oak-colored locks.
She sleeps there, humming in a way that allows her to know Jessica is dreaming of those grassy plains she spoke of. For a moment, she's peaceful in her rest but then she shuffles, pressing her head persistently against Jennifer's palms.
A tear slips from the corner of her eyes and Jennifer catches them, cupping the side of her cheek gently. She continues to whimper and cry, and when Jessica comes to grip onto the girl's jacket, she whispers, scared and desperate, "...Jennifer..."
Perhaps it isn't the wisest choice in this circumstance but Jennifer lifts her other hand next to Jessica's ear and snaps her fingers. She even bounces her feet, urging the half-deer girl to wake up from her nightmare as she calls out her name.
It isn't until her patience is thinning out that the whines stop and a pair of mossy green eyes come to stare at her through a blurry lens. She whispers again when they clear, a hint of relief and uncertainty coating her voice. "Is that you... Jennifer?"
She huffs at her. "Who else would it be? Are you okay?"
"You're... You're here." Her gaze melts, wearing a lopsided and dopey grin as she does.
And as much as Jennifer wishes to smack her with sense, she can't help but cave in to Jessica's irresistible charm.
"Of course I am." Once more, she pets the top of her head fondly. "I promised, didn't I?"
The Bolter: Short Story
25/01/2025 - first part
“Who was Viola Wilson?” All sounds of gossip and chatter are immediately sucked out of the room. Eyes flick up from coffee and crochet, scrutinizing gazes locking onto me all down the long table. A pang in my chest tells me this was a bad idea, but there’s really no going back now. “Viola Wilson” I repeat, my voice trembling slightly as I look out towards the group, “who was she?” The room is so silent you could hear a pin drop, and I can feel the stares from every woman boring into my soul, as I shift uncomfortably on the hard plastic chair. The lady sitting in front of me finally speaks, “Viola was… a curious child” “You can say that again” another chimes in, and sly chuckles erupt around the room, garnering sharp looks from the original speaker. “She almost drowned when she was six when she fell into the frozen lake”, a lady with a shrill voice pipes up. “Her brother and some of the local boys were skating on the lake, and little Viola was there, tottering around. Almost six years old and she still hasn't figured out how to walk properly.” She tuts, “Then suddenly, there was a big cracking noise, like something out of a movie, and the ice just began to split! All the boys skated off with ease - of course - but Viola - poor Viola - with her wobbly little legs tripped and fell right in! Oh, the hopeless little thing.” “She would’ve died right then, if her father hadn’t pulled her out”, a wide-eyed woman with a bob comments, leaning forward across the table. “We would’ve all been better off if he hadn’t, quite frankly” someone smirks. “Beth-an-y! She was a child!” the shrill-voice woman exclaims.

Split-Axe has its share of die-hard fans, some of them even die…🪓💀
There’s something wrong with Robyn Rathburn’s son…
Something sinister and demonic hides in his shadow, has been there since the day he was born. Something Travis’s birth mother summoned, but she didn’t pay the price, died before she could.
But these types of contracts are hereditary, you know. Blood oaths are signed and bound and that
Blood
Passes
Down…
This thing wants energy, it wants rapturous, cult-like adoration and devotion. And Travis has a band—the stage could be its altar.
………………
The first time Hunter watched Travis Rathburn perform in a little bar in Charlotte, North Carolina, he knew that they should make music together. After months worth of touring with separate bands on the same stages, they form a close friendship, and so it honestly seems like fate when they form their own nu metal band, Split-Axe, a year later.
But Travis has this aura around him, it’s something manic and fraught—a nexus of misfortune. There’s something dark brewing in North Carolina and it’s not just Travis caught in its wake, so is everyone around him.
Wanted to post a little teaser for my horror novel that I'm working on set in the 90s-early 00s. Tag is Splitaxe if you're interested in following along. I'll be sharing excerpts and art : )
Hunter knew Travis, had his appearance memorized. The tiny chip in one of his canines, the white scars on his wrists, the freckle by his eye. The way he bit his nails down to the quick and bounced his knee when he was reading one of his books.
Hunter didn’t remember exactly when he began to suspect that Travis cared about him the same way but it started with little things. Like the way some of Hunter’s vernacular started bleeding into Travis’s vocabulary. Words like “reckon,” or “Hey” instead of “Hi.”
The first time Travis said ‘y’all’ Hunter thought he was making fun of him but then he realized the word was said earnestly, not a mockery but a mirror. That they’d been in each other’s spaces long enough now that they’d started picking things up and reflecting them back.
It wasn’t just Travis either. Hunter had started eating his hash-browns with syrup now too instead of ketchup, and he’d starting buying pepper jack cheese because Travis liked it, grating it into both their omelets on Sunday morning. It had only been a handful of months since Travis had moved in but it felt like a lifetime.
