Who are you?

Hi, I’m Zolo. I’m 24 and I work as a copywriter which is really cool job on most days but sometimes really annoying! My timezone is GMT+6 and Astor marks my return to the RP world after about 4 years so I’m super excited about this. 

What do you live for?

I love debating and acting - I’m a part of a drama troupe. I also really enjoy cinema and books and my taste ranges from super high brow shit like Tarkovsky right to the funniest commercial comedies like Zoolander - same goes for books. Basically if it’s well written, and has a good plot/narrative, I’m into it. So hit me up if you want to talk movies or books or even music, I love discovering new stuff to watch, read and listen to!

Do you have any pets?

Nope, not a huge animal person though most people in my life have been trying to get me to warm up to dogs for as long as I remember! Don’t get me wrong, I have rescued pups and I think they are super cute, I just don’t feel responsible enough to have a pet, really mainly because I’ve been living alone for a while now.

If there was another you, who would it be?

This is a really strange question, I thought quite a bit about this and I think it would be whichever muse I’m currently playing. I think it might be a negative point for an RP-er and I really respect people who can play characters starkly different from themselves but I usually paint shades of myself into my muses and often see them as a reflection of something inside me. If I had to see myself from an outsider’s perspective I think I would find different aspects of my personality in my many muses.

Which type of dark academia are you?

I’d say I’m a mix of classic and casual dark academic. Yup.

Is there a particular skeleton that caught your attention?

Ah yesss, I loved The Tempestuous right off the bat. I envisioned her a deeply flawed but morally sound character and I feel with people misunderstanding her and the layers of complexities that is her personality, she could be a great character to explore this roleplay through! 

Do you have…

Favorite faces to play? Not really, but I generally like getting an essence of a face through gif hunts when I choose faceclaims.

A character trope that you find yourself always writing? Ugh, the misunderstood snarky and mean outwardly but actually good character or the out and out angsty and reckless rebel. I usually give them subtle ticks and I write them very very differently from each other but yeah these are the broad tropes I usually go for.

A role play-related pet peeve? Clique RP-ing and when roleplayers are wayyy too focused on romantic connection and ignore plot progression of the group as a whole in the process.

Would you rather…

Would you rather be famous when you are alive and forgotten when you die or unknown when you are alive but famous after you die? One of my favourite movie lines is “I want to become immortal, then die.” So yeah I think I’d like it if I lived on even after death as a part of humankind’s history.

Would you rather never use social media sites / apps again or never watch another movie or TV show? Never use social media sites for sure because if I stopped consuming good cinema and book I’d have a creative block and lose my job lol.

Would you rather be completely invisible for one day or be able to fly for one day? Be able to flyyyyy! Imagine the free PR, I’d be famous for the rest of my life hahah!

Would you rather have everything you eat be too salty or not salty enough no matter how much salt you add? Not salty enough because I anyway like food slightly less salty than the usual amount.

Iced or hot? Iced coffeeee for sure, living on that stuff.

Cake or pie? Cake, eating a slice as I write this.

Antique or brand new? Antique, I think it’s more charming.

hello, official introduction time. my name is, i’m twenty-two, and i’m currently wasting a lot of time playing animal crossing. don’t ask me how much. it’s a lot of time. a lot. 

anywho, this, my dear friends, is beatrice rose galloway-klein. her mama is the only one who uses her full name because most people just call her birdie ( much to her mama’s chagrin ), and some call her gallo, but only if they’re feeling frisky. she’s aiming to be the president of the united states one day, and honestly ? she could get there. but for now, she’s only twenty. she’s escaped from southern belle hell but the accent and taste for pecan pie hasn’t left her. she has a drawl thicker than fog in the spring, and she could charm the birds out of trees. currently, she’s a part of house machiavelli, and she’s studying political science and political theory. honestly, she’s just a delight, and i’m peachy keen to start plotting with everyone !

Blurb:

A firecracker. A fur coat draped over her shoulders as she lounges on the couch. She’s smarter than she seems, watching and waiting, thirsting for secrets. She drinks pink wine from a bottle, and she’s waiting for a chance to wear a crown on her head.

Backstory:

You are a beauty queen failure much to your mama’s chagrin but her words can’t hurt you because you are untouchable. Bold and brazen, nothing can bring you down. It’s funny. You should have been soft and demure, but you are anything but. You walk into a room and eyes are on you. That’s how it’s meant to be. One day, eyes will be on you, and everyone will listen. You can imagine it all too well. You are going to be something and damn anyone who thinks they can get in your way.

History:

Birdie Klein is born in the high heat of summer in southern Alabama to a beauty queen and the state governor. She is a fussy thing, yelling and never settling down. Her parents adore her, though, for completely different reasons. Her mama sees good cheekbones and pageants in her future, while her daddy sees her as something to love and adore. It is clear who her favorite parent would be from the beginning.

The house she grows up in --- the manor --- is too big for a child. The walls are tall and the windows go from the floor to the ceiling. she gets lost in the curtains between masses of fabric. there is art on the wall, photographs and paintings. she is told from the beginning: look, don’t touch. That's her whole childhood, mottos like that. sit, stay still. walk, don’t run. it is stifling. She is tied up in ribbons and taffeta and she hates it. she stares out the window, longingly towards the trees in the yard. The respite in her life is trips to her grandmother’s. Birdie runs free through the orchard, skinning her knees and scraping her palms. It's a little bit of normalcy. but she always has to return to that too-big house. it’s filled with more people who aren’t family than those who are. there are chefs and maids and butlers and nannies and tutors. Birdie knows them all by name. They take care of her more than her parents. they deal with the tantrums and fits. 

She is eight when she steps into her first private school. She does well enough in classes ( her reports home constantly say that she would do better if she only applied herself ) and she thrives surrounded by her peers. she does what’s expected of her, but really nothing more. she has her passions and throws herself into them, of course. feminism. women’s studies. suffrage. Little else really stimulates her. She does well on debate team --- she can talk and argue like no one else --- and she plays field hockey for the school team. 

She realizes just how much money her family has one day when she is talking to a ( gasp ) scholarship student at her school. She talks about flights on her daddy’s jet and vacations in majorca. She mentions her nanny and tutor and how they were replaced when she said she didn’t like them. She talks about christmas and how her wardrobe is completely replaced. She doesn’t realize when the other student falls silent, feeling awkward and out of place. Finally, she is hit with the knowledge that not everyone has what she does. She carefully tries not to flaunt her wealth after that, but sometimes it’s hard. She wears clothes that are worth more than some people’s entire. The names of brands that fall from her lips come easy. she knows her wealth can be … overwhelming … but she isn’t mad about it. She likes the life she has.

Birdie is fifteen when she realizes she wants to be just like her daddy. He is in politics, she wants to do the same. They definitely do not have the same ideas. She’s liberal as can be, he’s more moderate. She wants change. He tells her it takes time. she wants it now. During her high school summers, she goes to D.C. and works as an intern in a congresswoman’s office. She doesn’t do much more than make copies, send faxes, and get coffee, but she’s in the room where it happens. She is seeing how the world works and how real change gets made. she tells herself one day she’ll work in one of these offices still. Of course, when that happens, her name will be on the door. It will be her office. It will be her changes that are being made.

She gets into Astor with no trouble. It’s her dream school. She’s going to become something there, surely. How could she not ?

for the love of appearances : consider this: birdie, proud, in heels that would make her mama’s heart stop, you by her side, looking just as good. a relationship for the image, nothing more. maybe behind closed doors, they bicker like hell and they hate each other. maybe they’re friends. who’s to say .we can definitely play around. there are a lot of options and variables. /// OPEN

Who are you?

Lucia, she/her/whatever, I'm 19 (i’ll be 20 in may), I'm a taurus, a Slytherin, an INTP. I’m Argentinian but I live in France since I'm a child. I’m a student in a Film / Sound school, I want to be a sound engineer for films or concerts (it’s sooo not the same job but I’m both in love with live music/events and film production....) 

What do you live for?

Before the confinement, i would have say my passion, which is sound in film and music. I was so busy before confinement I had no time to think about something else. But right now, I’ve fallen again in this weird obsession I had when I was 10 for historical figures, people of power especially during the Renaissance, and especially women. All that because of Reign (the tv series), that I started watching at the beginning of confinement (actually I've seen episode 1 a long time ago but I didn’t buy it because of the soundtrack and the fact that it’s a series for 13 year old girls,,), anyway now I’m thinking about buying one of these weird medieval coat-cloak on vinted and making a belt and scabbard for the dagger my aunt bought me when we were visiting a castle when I was twelve.  But it will pass ahah

Do you have any pets?

Yes, a dog, a coton de Tuléar named Sammy (because when we adopted him, my little brother and I were obsessed with Supernatural). He’s six and cute.

If there was another you, who would it be?

Since I really stated reading books when I was around eight or nine yo, I always identified with the strong female lead, kinda warrior, fighting for something... I think I somehow still do ? Or the alternative kid in the movies. But I couldn’t say a name. Well, actually I’d be pleased to say Elizabeth Swann from Pirates of the Caribbean maybe ? 

Favorite piece of dark academia, if any?

The Secret History really, it’s still one of my favorite books. Also I’d like to name a book series that I’ve read when I was twelve that was never mentioned anywhere as dark academia but I think can make the list: the Night School series; and I think it’s really the books that made me like all this dark academia atmosphere. 

Which type of dark academia are you?

I’d say casual (i’m not a youtuber tho), with bits of classic obviously, and a part of me wanting to be music-obsessed, but I’ve always been too punk rock for piano or violin ahah (and I cannot focus with music on, I always end up listing to the music more than the thing I'm supposed to do). 

Is there a particular skeleton that caught your attention?

The Contrarian, I mean, that’s the type of character I like to see anywhere! Also I’m more comfortable with playing boys. But I like all the strong ladies here, the overachiever, the tempestuous, the deviant...

Do you have…

Favorite faces to play?  I like choosing a new face for a new character, but it sometimes happens that I recycle. Elle Fanning, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Fionn Whitehead, Timothée Chalamet, Kaya Scodelario, Kristen Stewart, Amandla Steinberg... People I’d like to play again would be Sonny Hall, Dagsen Love, Benjamin Wadsworth, Finn Wolfhard, Taylor Lashae and Lydia Graham.  

A character trope that you find yourself always writing? I don’t know, I like diversity. But I always find something for my character to look for, like they miss something and they want to find it. So they’re all kinda, either frustrated or sad ? Also, the Asexual. 

A role play-related pet peeve? I don’t remember what’s the Name to call it but when someone makes 0 flaws to their character, like they have it all, everything turns out great for them, their character is better than yours, you’ll never beat them etc, etc....

What do you live for?

I have such a soft spot for k-dramas and honestly, with quarantine and all, it’s all that I’ve been watching. Would 100% recommend Crash Landing On You, if you haven’t watched it yet, as well as my all time fave: Scarlet Heart Ryeo! I also love period dramas and movies, and my current fave would have to be Greta Gerwig’s Little Women. 

As for music, my all-time favorite albums are Arctic Monkeys’ AM, and Melodrama by Lorde (my soundtrack while I worked on Astor tbh). 

Do you have any pets?

I have a little shih tzu named George! I used to foster a pet turtle named Tallullah but her owner took her back.

If there was another you, who would it be?

I would say Chidi from The Good Place because UM stressing over the morality of actions? Having stomach pains constantly? Yep, me. I also aspire to be Gina Linetti but I’m not half as cool as her. 

Favorite piece of dark academia, if any?

The Secret History will always be my fave. I also just recently discovered The Dead Poets Society (I know, I should be ashamed!) and loved it.

Yo I did not expect this but I’m a classic dark academic?? Really thought I’d be more of the music-obsessed dark academic, but man, the aesthetics(?) for the classic dark academic just screams me tbh.

Favorite faces to play? So many omg. My top faves would be Charles Melton, Nana Komatsu, Lucy Boynton, Park Jinyoung (obvi), Park Sooyoung, Courtney Eaton, Moon Ga Young, Woo Do Hwan, Vachirawit Chivaaree, Kaylee Bryant, Halston Sage-- those are just the ones that I can think of right now.

A character trope that you find yourself always writing? Ugh I’m always inclined to play the dark brooding guy™ who’s soft for his loved ones but I’m kind of hoping to switch things up, expand my repertoire, if you will. So I’m definitely trying to play the opposite with my character for Astor. 

A role play-related pet peeve? Godmodding. I think it can’t be helped to include the other character in a para, but as long as you make sure that the other writer is comfortable with it and has knowledge about it, should be good.
