According to Mike Woodson, the New York Knicks will likely be without forward Amar’e Stoudemire in their first round Playoff matchup against the Boston Celtics. (Center Tyson Chandler, meanwhile, is giving himself a clean bill of health.)
Team doctors have instructed Knicks coach Mike Woodson to cut Amar'e Stoudemire's minutes after the player experienced soreness in his surgically repaired left knee in Monday's loss to Boston.
In his initial remarks after being told of Amar’e Stoudemire slamming him about a lack of defensive coaching, Mike D’Antoni was quite classy and deftly played off the charge. When asked about the issue again today, the Lakers’ head coach was considerably more honest, and displayed his annoyance. Per the LA Times: “It’s mind-boggling. I mean, come on,’ D’Antoni said. ‘He threw Frank Johnson, myself, Alvin Gentry and actually Mike Woodson … was he saving the good stuff? Because he coached him eight months and he was the defensive coach. It doesn’t make any sense.’ [...] D’Antoni was Stoudemire’s head coach for more than 8½ seasons in Phoenix and New York. ‘If he’s learning, great,’ D’Antoni said. ‘That would be super. It just boggles the mind.’”
Perhaps unintentionally, Amar’e Stoudemire took a shot at his former head coach Mike D’Antoni, while praising his current one Mike Woodson. When it comes to defense, Stoudemire says it’s the first time it has become a point of emphasis (which is a comment he has made in the past.)
Amare Stoudemire is making his season debut and Carmelo Anthony is back in the starting lineup for the New York Knicks against Portland.
As long as injuries don't necessitate otherwise, New York Knicks forward Amar'e Stoudemire will come off the bench when he returns to the team, league sources with knowledge of the Knicks' thinking said.
New York Knicks forward Amar'e Stoudemire says he is open to playing any role that helps the team win, including coming off the bench.
According to New York Knicks head coach Mike Woodson, forward Amar’e Stoudemire could take part in a team practice as soon as tomorrow.
