i’d love to hear about your HCs for harry right after the war! does you think he travels? delves into work/school? finds himself a therapist? hope your WIP works out for you 💜
Thank you! ❤️
I talked about Harry a little bit in Ginny’s healing process after the war, because I think they’d have similar feelings to a degree.
I think, unlike Ginny’s hyperfocus, Harry would fluctuate between grief fueled anger and numbness/apathy. He would probably feel a little lost without having anything immediate to redirect his attention to so he can repress his bad feelings.
Harry’s a tactile guy, he likes using his hands and putting in physical effort to deal with things (see, Harry digging Dobby’s grave without magic). He would probably grativate towards something like that.
I said Ginny might box, which could be a good thing for Harry as well. Whereas Quidditch enables Ginny to hyperfocus, it could allow Harry to let go. He could work on the Hogwarts repairs. He could travel, but for something that demands attention and work— like volunteering to work with Charlie. He could get into dealing with gardening through Neville. He could try cooking with Molly, which starts as his way of being there and turns into something fun. He could throw himself into auror training (this isn’t healthy, Harold).
Just, anything that allows him to be active and get out of the house so he has something else to focus on instead of laying in his bed and wallowing in his pain.
I definitely do think that Harry would need to see a mental health professional, but I don’t think that’d be something he would do. He has a problem letting people in, especially people he sees as authority figures. That’s without mentioning the fact that he did grow up sheltered, he wouldn’t think therapy as an option because he has no clear idea what it actually is, he’d have misconceptions instead.
He could see a therapist, but it’d probably be either through external encouragement (Hermione, possibly) or someone else saying, “I understand how you feel and therapy truly helped me deal with things”.
