post-epilogue, Keith goes to an alternate reality

Three days ago, Shiro pulled Keith’s broken body out of the Red Lion and put him in cryo in case he– just in case. Two days ago, Allura held him while he tried not to cry, and kindly didn’t point out that there was nothing to be done.

Yesterday, they crossed into an alternate reality and encountered a Voltron that managed to defeat Zarkon and remain whole, and he glimpsed that Shiro catching that Keith in a desperate, bruising kiss when they thought they were out of sight, as if they could defeat death through sheer force of will.

Today they all stand gathered in Black’s hangar, pale and frozen as Keith climbs out of the battered Galra fighter.

But it’s not Keith.

i finished it, but honestly i can’t say anything beyond expressing that i’m disappointed above all else. i really did expect better even if i knew the leaks were real; i at least thought the season would be normal with just a what the fuck moment at the end.

instead what we got what a disjointed, emotionally unsatisfying, narratively inconsistent mess. i would love to hear them defend the decision to kill allura off in the first iteration of voltron ever after also making her a woman of color in the first iteration of voltron ever. my thoughts on the wedding are well documented on twitter. that’s rly just where i’m at rn

The wedding is held in spring, because that’s when weddings are supposed to be held. Good weather, a few flowers trying their best to peak up out of the rock outside the Garrison, and it’s almost a year to the day from the end of the war. Shiro’s always been the marrying type. Of course, he’s the one that asks—but he asks Keith first.

“Do you think he’d say yes?”

They’re in the hangar after hours. It’s dark, but the stars are bright. There’s not enough light to see the MFEs and hoverbikes by, but that’s not really the point. Keith is a shadow beside him, static in stillness.

“Yeah,” he says after a breath. “Who wouldn’t?”
