the  voice  echoed  in  the  room  like  cold  silver  and  snow  jumped  up  from  where  she  was  standing  in  front  of  an  array  of  framed  pictures  on  the  dark  walls  ––  her  fingers  had  reached  out  to  touch  it,  fingers  that  are  now  frozen  in  place  and  quickly  retracted  to  her  sides.  

her  voice  had  sent  shivers  down  her  spine,  like   the  cold  skin  of  a  snake  that  slowly  slither  down  her  skin  and  she  had  no  choice  but  to  be  struck  with  fear.

‘i ––  i’m  terribly  sorry.  it  was  not  my intention  to  be  act  so  brazenly,’  it  was  a  beautiful  manor,  though  it  lacked  warmth  that  she  could  find  in  abundance  in  her own  home,  and  so  she  found  herself  reaching  towards  the  one  thing  that  oozes  that  same  kind  of  comfort  she’s  grown  used  to,  or  at  least  a  semblance  of  it.

does victor have any regrets regarding emily?

in spite of the fact that he sets emily free, victor always wishes he could have done more for emily.  she does so much for him;  he’s the person he is for victoria and for himself because of emily.  she teaches him how to actually be alive, how to actually be a person who speaks for himself and stands up for himself and loves what and who he wants to love  —  unfortunately, those lessons end up taking him further and further away from choosing her and to remain with her in the land of the dead. 

victor regrets everything that happened to emily, even if most of it isn’t even his fault or his to control because he loves her and misses her  —  and even though he’s absurdly happy with victoria, even though marrying her was the right decision, he wishes he could have loved emily better because she loved him so completely and perfectly.

     “....emily?” victor’s sing is glimmering on victoria’s finger, this time, and it would be a lie to say there is no twinge of guilt in that  - - - and so victoria says nothing at all. not yet. only stares with those wide doe’s eyes of hers. “i thought....” is it polite to mention that she thought that emily was gone? dissolved in a shower of butterflies? that she’d thought there would be no more ghosts to haunt them? without knowing that she does it, the young woman touches the wedding band upon her finger, as though to make sure it still remained. eyes drift from emily for a moment, out to the moonlit view, and  then she nods. “it is,” she says. “it is....very beautiful.”

        “is it about betrothals again, cissy?” andromeda drawls, barely looking up from the newspaper sprawled open on the foot of her bed. (it’s all doom and gloom and exaggeration, as always, but she’s found herself searching through the pages more often than not these days, hoping against hope there’s one name she won’t see.) “that’s the only thing i can think of you can be here to talk about that i wouldn’t care for.” she sighs, sitting up and curling her legs to the side, patting side of her bed. “come on, then,” she says. “out with it, whatever it is.”
