How to Read Outer Planets in Vedic Astrology
This post will teach you how to read outer planets in Vedic astrology. Outer planets refer to the seven major bodies that are not considered part of the Earth's solar system: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. These are different from inner planets which include Mercury and Venus as well as Mars and Earth. This blog post is meant for beginners who want an introduction to Vedic astrology or any other modality that does not involve reading birth charts such as palmistry or tarot cards.
-The first thing to understand is that outer planets do not represent the individual's personality. Rather, they are representative of different levels and dimensions in which an individual can operate. They are also indicative of what we would call "energies" from a Jungian perspective. In other words, these seven bodies refer less to our personal characteristics but more so to energies or archetypes.

-The second thing to understand is that while these planets represent energies or archetypes, they also are representative of what we would call "chakras". This means the seven bodies refer less to our personal characteristics but more so to different levels and dimensions in which an individual can operate. In other words, outer planets refer less specifically to a person's personality traits than inner planets do. The idea is that these bodies exist at higher planes and one must be living actively within them before they will manifest as qualities of their character for observation. Again from Jungian perspective this could be seen as something like subpersonalities rather than aspects of the ego.
In Vedic astrology there are four main types:
-Earth Planets (Saturn, Saturn) -Mutable Planets (Jupiter, Neptune) -Fixed Planets (Uranus, Pluto) -Dual Natured or Combination Planets: Mars/Venus. Mercury/Moon. Venus and Jupiter are also dual natured but the Ascendant is not counted as a planet because it's always in one sign like Aries or Taurus etc.
The Earth planets have to do with physicality and stability; the Mutable ones with changeability and mobility; Fixed ones on detachment from worldly concerns which allows for spiritual awareness; Dual Natures represent balance of opposites in all forms. All seven bodies must be read together because they work cooperatively rather than individually.
One of the most important factors in Vedic Astrology is to make sure that all seven planetary positions are read together as they work cooperatively rather than individually. In other words, everybody has a different effect on any given chart and it's important to take into account where each planet falls when interpreting natal charts. While some planets have more influential effects then others, none can exist independently from one another which means that if one gets pushed out of its normal space (exalted) or debilitated by Saturn for example, we need to be aware of how this will impact both itself and the rest of our interpretation.
