everything comes with a cost. Charlie, after her failed interview with Killjoy that ended up deteriorating what little faith hell has for Happy Hotel , is sought out by Vox— who proposes a Very Extremely Totally Normal Deal; he’ll lend her help in advertising the hotel via the networks he controls. in exchange, he offers to become their hotelier, co-managing with the princess herself.

sounds too good to be true . and it is !

vox does Not believe in the hotel. truly. wholeheartedly. redemption for sinners is a JOKE. but hey . if it airs on TV, it better be a Good, Marketable, Brilliant Joke . so that’s his job, wrapping up the hotel like a present and dangling it on air. why is vox helping in the first place, you ask ?

his powers are weakened following his Very Humiliating Defeat by alastor— his rival. in this au, vox is the one who disappeared for 7 years. and his powers come from public reception and ratings. following his loss, he loses major influence and support, forcing him to retreat in shame.

he still had the Vees though. didn’t really last long as things got ugly between them. i won’t detail it here as i rewrote valentino and velvette as well as the vees’ lore but in short, he’s out of the team. Done . kicked out.

with no team and weakened, vox is on the verge of losing his status as an overlord. Very much on the verge of it . he needs to act fast to restore what little influence he still has. then— a golden opportunity. Princess Morningstar’s fumbled interview with killjoy . talking about some hotel to Redeem sinners. it’s a joke. it’s ridiculous. but all of hell is Talking about it. Giving it attention. and then it hits..!!!

if Vox can somehow strike up a deal with the princess, be the hotel’s Very First benefactor, sponsor it with what he has of voxtek right now . he can Shift the public’s perception of himself and the hotel. now, he’s not gonna be honest of course . marketing is Allll about advertising the good parts and shoving away any flaws in the closet. so he can just . MAKE the hotel LOOK good and gain what he had lost— attention, power, influence, status. Everything.

now. Charlie on the other hand…

charlie is very, very desperate for any help she can get. logically, she knows of vox’s reputation, how cunning he is . how adaptable and persuasive he is. however ,.,.

she quite literally wasted the last of her savings for the hotel to hold the interview with katie. now of course, as a princess, she Caaan just technically. ask lucifer for more allowance, but she Really Really wants to do things independently and not rely on her own blood. she wants to prove that this is Her legacy— not by being lucifer’s daughter or the princess of hell . but as charlie. just charlie , who wants to help people.

the lack of hotel staff. right now, there’s her and vaggie with angel dust as their Very First ‘patron’. it’s not that she Hasn’t ever tried to search for workers— she has ! but her job offers often come unnoticed or ignored, as she lacks the knowledge in advertising . and the people who Do apply? all just . Take advantage of her kindness and ransack the hotel. man .

in all honesty, charlie knows vox has a second motif hidden underneath his honeyed promises. she knows he’s most likely not genuine when it comes to wanting to help redeem sinners. and while it pains her to see someone not taking her dreams seriously, she needs all the help she can get. and media attention? it’s Exactly what the hotel Needs.

…… maybe if she keeps a Very close eye on him, things will work out fine. mhm . Yeah !
