David N. Schramm 1945-1997 - December 22nd, 1997.
"David N. Schramm effectively combined the very big with the very small. Among his many scientific achievements, Schramm and collaborators successfully used Big Bang cosmology to predict that only three families of elementary particles exist in the Universe, which was subsequently confirmed by high energy particle accelerators. Schramm and collaborators realised that relative elemental abundance measurements, when combined with nuclear reaction rates, constrained the amount of normal matter to be much less than that implied by the movements of stars and galaxies. Therefore, most of the Universe might be made of some sort of dark matter. Schramm was a champion wrestler, a mountain climber, an inspiration to scientists and students, and was alone piloting a plane when it crashed on December 19th, 1997."

I know this website doesn’t love self promo but I got good news about my most beloved favorite book child this week.
It is my most beloved favorite book child because it is so silly. So so so silly. I drew purposefully silly line drawings for it. It is all about absolute nonsense things we know about outer space but the story of why we know those things, how did we figure it out. It has footnote jokes. It has 45 pages of citations at the end. I am very proud of this book.
It has had distribution issues. So in the US it’s been a bit harder to get ahold of than it should be. (You can still get it! It’s backordered on bookshop, and has been for ages, but B&N has it.) (It’s very easy to get in the UK.)
This week I learned it’s sold 6000 copies, in spite of limited US stock. I’m so proud people have loved this book.
So big thank you to every single person who’s picked up a copy of The Milky Way Smells Of Rum & Raspberries, because it really made me happy this week to have shared it with so many people.
