“You’re my favorite person in the world.”

The words had come out so easily, even he hadn’t initially meant to say them. But Casper didn’t regret it, because she really was his favorite person in the world, and it was about time that he’d told her that. Rachel deserved to be as happy as she made everyone around her feel, and he hoped that his confession would do just that – that was all he ever wanted, for her to be happy. It was why he had tried so hard over the course of the past year to make every conversation with her as exciting as the last, to try and keep giving her reasons to smile because her smile was so bright that it lit up whatever space she was in at the time. She was always trying to cheer others up and make them feel good about themselves, and he just wanted to make sure that she had someone that was willing to do the same for her. Because that’s what a good friend would do, and he was nothing if not a good friend.

Although he wasn’t sure when he started wishing that he was more than just a good friend. But that was something he could deal with later. At that moment, he just wanted to keep making her smile the way she was smiling at him right then, even if what he really meant when he said she was his favorite person in the world was lost on her.
