Asugi moved to grip his dagger, chewing his lip before his eyes turned to look around.

Big mistake. 

Valter seemed to materialize next to the boy the moment his eyes were averted. He loomed close, those crazed, amber eyes seeming to burn into his very soul.

“Looking for someone?” he chuckled darkly as he seized the offending hand that dared reach for his dagger while Valter was talking to him. “Someone you think can SAVE you, perhaps?” A mocking cackle of ridicule.

Asugi looked at his father for a moment before letting out a sigh. “Sure old man. What do you want? Gonna scold me again?” He asked, crossing his arms. Sure, his words were harsh, but his tone was more… tired than anything else.

“Is it really so unbelievable to think that I just want to talk to you?” Saizo grumbled before catching himself. “... Hmm. Well, I suppose it is a bit unusual, now that I think about it. But I promise I have nothing but good intentions.”

He took a deep breath. “Do you think I... hate you, Asugi?” he asked as if the very idea made his skin crawl.

Valter simply chuckled, amber irises glinting unnaturally in the moonlight. “Are you frightened, child...?” he taunted playfully. “What a shame that you would wander into my clutches so readily... Perhaps you were hoping that I would bestow my blessing upon you...”

He clicked his sharp fangs, looming closer. “But unfortunately... I’d rather devour you instead.”

At Saizo's door, a small bag waited. There was something inside, small pieces of hand made licorice. There was no hint at who sent it, besides the gift itself.

“...” Saizo smirked. “Heh... This is acceptable,” he chuckled, biting into one.
