Cranberries Singer Dolores O’Riordan Dies At 46
Those Stubborn Canines!
Those dog on canines... okay so I am not exactly sure what age I was but I distincly remember my new set of canines coming in while my baby set decided that they weren't going anywhere. So the battle began, the baby teeth vs the adult teeth and to date, I am not quite sure how long that fight would have lasted but my dentist decided to partner with my adult canines and give them the upper hand. So he pulled the stubborn baby teeth to give the others enough room to move on in.
A bit late in the game
However it was a bit late in the game because they had been pushed back behind the normal alignment of my teeth. Luck for me they are outside of four front teeth so no one ever really noticed that I needed braces. My siblings had perfectly straight teeth, in fact beautiful teeth but this was a game changer for the family.
My Mom insisted that I get braces but because of my idea of what the kids would say, I opted out. I did not want to be pegged as brace face. Boy do I wish I had just gotten it over with. Back then the insurance would have covered them and I would not be interviewing Ortho after Ortho to find one that would work out the best payment arrangement.
It really pays to shop around!
I can't stress enough, how important it is to shop around! I have gotten estimates from $7,500 to $3,500. Now this is a huge variance. In my case I only need a year to get straitened out but based on location that year just might cost a lot more. For the same work the price went up because rent was higher for certain practices. Now for me, I wanted a reputable Ortho to do the work and I wanted to have the work done in a office that cared about the setting as well BUT I do not want to pay $2,000 or better extra for water falls and posh city locations. Why should I. So I did my homework and even considered dental schools but then I found a doctor in Silver Spring, MD that was very reputable, had a great location and was not trying to make me pay more than was necessary for the work. Just under $4,000 Dr. Martin Okun got the job!
It pays to be patient and shop around!
I know it was God himself that lead me to this doctor. I was in the parking lot making a U-turn and was suddenly inspired to park and go through the building to see what was in there. Weird? Perhaps but God has given me so much, this way-- so I went in and discovered Dr. Okun and said not sure why I am here because I have actually found someone else to do this work but can we talk. I was able to talk to the patients and the staff and schedule a Free Consult that lead me to my final decision. I decided this is the place and the payment arrangement is flexible and this works for me.
Spacers!
I got my spacers today and I am all excited about going the full run to do what I should have done oh so long ago! So at 46 I finally will walk as an overjoyed brace face on her way to perfect alignment!
