It’s got to be disheartening seeing the Ice King. It’s one thing to know that he used to be Simon, but it’s another thing entirely to have known Simon, and to know that that person is gone. Anybody who’s watched somebody go through dementia can relate.

So we’ve got an episode about the Ice King’s- no. Simon’s past. No way that is going to be emotionally heavy at all.

I can already tell this is going to be a Sugar episode. I can fucking smell the sugar coming off of this title card.

I was too distracted by the mad scribbles before, but Simon discovered the Enchiridion. Given that book’s connection to the Lich, I wonder if that discovery accidentally lead to the Mushroom War itself. If so, then maybe it’s a minor silver lining that Simon doesn’t remember the role he played in bringing about the end of the flipping world.

If Simon had never met Marceline, would he have lived for as long as he did? Or would he have given up the crown and allowed himself to die? And would that have been better or worse than what did happen to him? It’s a haunting question.
