I saw your post on that cute farmer cat so maybe I'd rec the "Atagoal" manga (which got a CGI film, Atagoal: Cat's Magical Forest which I aint seen) which I think you'd prolly like (both for cats and some weird surreal stuff too)!

holy crap, thanks for the rec. there definitely are a lot of similarities!

and also considering the artist made a manga adaptation of Gusko Budori no Denki, (which the film is supposedly based on) I could imagine Redbeard basically being a Hideyoshi (I assume this cat is named Hideyoshi) guest appearance?? Down to that lil’ scarf/cape. (edit: he’s also adapted Night On The Galactic Railroad and uhh... Kaze no Matasaburo?)

also that guy in the hat looks a lot like the one who appeared in Night On The Galactic Railroad. 

Damn there’s a lot of overlap. I have to wonder if Hiroshi Masumura’s done character designs and stuff for these animated films based on Kenji Miyazawa’s novels. There is so much I don’t know @_@
