The death of a few was justified in the survival of many. That’s what Rhys had taught her - and that’s what she was telling herself in this very instant. It was all she could do to suppress the guilt she felt staring at the bloody mess where another human had once stood, now nothing but scattered pieces, and remnants of a life that she’d never know.

“ Of course you haven’t. You’ve been nothing but trustworthy since I met you, ” her tone was laced with a thin layer of remorse, but her voice was confident nonetheless.
Paladin Dietrich was easily one of the Brotherhood of Steel’s more loyal soldiers. In her short time, Haylen had seen more than one Brotherhood affiliate - usually Initiates - who were faithless in the Brotherhood, even scornful. Yes, they did things wrong, but so did everyone else.
However, she had never once seen the Paladin scorn or berate Brotherhood ideals. He had to be one of the most devoted soldiers she’d seen thus far.
