I have personal friends and co-workers who are atheists and none of them became atheist because of science but because they were deeply hurt emotionally and felt that God has failed them in one way or another, so they had said to themselves "there's no God, there never was" and would post anti-God memes and comments, I don't engage into a scientific debate with them but try to be a good friend and answer whatever biblical question they have. Sometimes you don’t have the answer and that’s okay, just tell him that you don’t know and that you will look into it.
