At Home with Dezcjon
Meet Dezcjon Lathrop – Art Instructor at Able ARTS Work. We interviewed Dezcjon about his adjustment to quarantine life. Here’s what a creative mind is up to.
What are you doing?
Working, painting, & doing my best to stay creative & be ready for the opportunities that are presented when lockdown is over.
What are you reflecting on?
Life, my blessings, my art, & growing.
What’s looking different these days?
Traffic, stores, & my hair.
What are you listening to? Share a playlist!
*checks Spotify’s recently played*….The New Toronto 3 by Tory Lanez, Los Angeles Is Not For Sale Vol.1 by Don Kennedy, Out The Trunk by Larry June, No Pressure by Nipsey & Bino….& Bryson Tiller’s new song “Slept On You” been on repeat too.
What are you watching?
Every 2019 & 2020 movie I can find online that I was too busy to go see when they came out, Black-ish, Animal / Nature documentaries, & art tutorials (so I can make some cool ones for Able ARTS)
What are you eating (and drinking, cooking?)
Takeout, fish, chicken, spinach, potatoes, junk I shouldn’t, water, & gatorade.
What are you learning?
In order to execute most of our art class activities I typically have to try them & see if/how it’ll work, what challenges clients could possibly encounter, alternative materials to use, & etc. so the virtual class experience has been a learning process for me…..“In learning you will teach & in teaching you will learn” -Phil Collins
What’s the silver lining in this?
The ecosystem, nature, & the animals seem to be flourishing & doing well. I think that’s cool! It’s like Mother Nature got a spa day….I also hope this time has brought families closer & makes them more reliant on each other.
If you could FaceTime with anyone right now, who would it be be?
My muse, my love, my queen....Jasmine.
Favorite part of working with Able ARTS?
Seeing the power of art & what it can do for people’s life & well being. I believe everyone has the right to create & express theirselves & it’s a great feeling to help the individuals we do. I've honestly never have had a job this rewarding when it comes to stuff like that & I appreciate it.
Favorite Able ARTS artist, artwork, song, etc?
My favorite Able ARTS artwork would have to be me & Carlos’ mural at EPI. I completed that project as a visiting artist/volunteer & it gave me the opportunity to see what Able ARTS does first hand & I was amazed. Quite some time later it was a blessing to return to the program as part of the team, welcomed back with open arms, & to be able work where it all began for me. I'd have to say all of Able ARTS' artists are my favorite because they all inspire me on a regular basis & it's appreciated.
