I feel like there’s something symbolic here in the way Zuko is framed in comparison to the grandeur of the palace and his father’s portrait and the way he’s shown to be looking up at his father earlier in this scene.
He’s trying to reach for something he cannot, aiming for a goal he can never reach because he and will never be like his father or his ancestors.
