Simulythos is a new media screening that focuses on experimental 3D animation techniques utilizing simulation software. Appropriating techniques usually used for special effects, advertisment, and mainstream cinema, our artists contextualize these processes to produce experimental media art. These artworks explore new mythos, narratives and themes explored through virtual worlds, and various forms of digital culture. Thus, Simulythos encompasses the uncanny while simulating dynamic environments. The screening features student work from Spring 2017’s Atmospheric Animation class taught by Snow Yunxue Fu and TA-ed by Benji Sayed, in the Film, Video, New Media, and Animation department at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
